Zirr ibn Hubaysh said: 'I went to Uthman as a delegate. I met Ubayy ibn Ka'b and said: Tell me, for I have wanted to meet you. I came only to meet you. So tell me about Laylat al-Qadr, for Ibn Mas'ud says: Whoever stands throughout the year will find it or catch it.' Ubayy said: 'He knew it was in Ramadan, but he wanted to obscure it from you. It is the night of the twenty-seventh, by the sign the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) told us about. We memorized it and knew it. The Messenger of Allah used to stay up until suhur. On the day before it and the day after it, he would climb up and look at the sun and say: The sun rises on its morning without rays until it rises high.'
