Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:9461 حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ بَعْدَ قِيَامِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ نُثَبِّتُ النَّاسَ عَلَى الْقِرَاءَةِ فَإِذَا أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَرْجِعَ صَلَّيْنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ «أَتُحَمِّلُونَ النَّاسَ مَا لَا يُحَمِّلُهُمُ اللهُ يَرَوْنَكُمْ تُصَلُّونَ فَيُرَوْنَ ذَلِكَ وَاجِبًا عَلَيْهِمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلِينَ فَفِي الْبُيُوتِ»
English Translation
Masruq said: 'We used to sit in the mosque after Abdullah ibn Mas'ud left, confirming people in their recitation. When we wanted to leave, we would pray two rak'ahs. When this reached Abdullah, he said: "Are you burdening people with what Allah has not burdened them? They see you praying and consider it obligatory upon them. If you must do it, then do it in your homes."'
