Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:9046 حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ كُنَّا جُلُوسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ إِذْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ دُخَانٌ فَيَأْخُذُ بِأَسْمَاعِ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَيَأْخُذُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كَهَيْئَةِ الزُّكَامِ فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَحَدَّثْنَاهُ وَهُوَ مُتَّكِئٌ فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ عَلِمَ عِلْمًا فَلْيَتَكَلَّمْ بِهِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَعْلَمْ فَلْيَقُلْ اللهُ أعْلَمُ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ عِلْمِ الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَقُولَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُ اللهُ أَعْلَمُ وَقَدْ قَالَ اللهُ لِنَبِيِّهِ ﷺ {قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ} وَسَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنِ الدُّخَانِ إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا لَمَّا اسْتَعْصَوْا وَأَبْطَئُوا عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ دَعَا عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَيْهِمْ بِسَبْعٍ كَسَبْعِ يُوسُفَ» فَأَصَابَتْهُمْ سَنَةٌ حَتَّى حَصَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى أَكَلُوا الْمَيْتَةَ وَالْعِظَامَ حَتَّى جَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَرَى مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ دُخَانًا فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ {فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُبِينٍ يَغْشَى النَّاسَ هَذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ رَبَّنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ} فَكَشَفَ عَنْهُمْ فَعَادُوا فِي كُفْرِهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ {يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ الْبَطْشَةَ الْكُبْرَى إِنَّا مُنْتَقِمُونَ} قَالَ الْبَطْشَةُ الْكُبْرَى يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ
English Translation
Masruq said: We were sitting in the mosque when a man came in and narrated, saying: 'On the Day of Resurrection a smoke will come and take the hearing of the hypocrites and affect the believers like a cold.' We went to Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and told him, and he was reclining, so he sat up and said: 'O people, whoever has knowledge should speak, and whoever does not know should say: Allah knows best. For it is part of a man's knowledge to say about what he does not know: Allah knows best. Allah said to His Prophet (peace be upon him): Say, I do not ask you for any reward for it, and I am not of the pretentious. I will tell you about the smoke: When the Quraysh were obstinate and slow to accept Islam, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) supplicated against them saying: O Allah, help me against them with seven years like the seven of Yusuf. A famine struck them until it destroyed everything - they ate dead animals and bones, until a man would see between himself and the sky what appeared as smoke. That is His saying: Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke, covering the people. This is a painful torment. Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers. It was removed from them, but they returned to their disbelief, so Allah seized them on the Day of Badr. That is His saying: The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution.' He said: 'The greatest assault was the Day of Badr.'
