Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8336 حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْخَلَّالُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ وَكَانَ شَابًّا وَفَدْنَا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَوَجَدَنِي أَفْضَلَهُمْ أَخْذًا لِلْقُرْآنِ وَقَدْ فَضَلْتُهُمْ بِسُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «قَدْ أَمَّرْتُكَ عَلَى أَصْحَابِكَ وَأَنْتَ أَصْغَرُهُمْ فَإِذَا أَمَمْتَ قَوْمًا فَأُمَّهُمْ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ فَإِنَّ وَرَاءَكَ الْكَبِيرَ وَالصَّغِيرَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ مُصَدِّقًا فَلَا تَأْخُذِ الشَّافِعَ وَهِي الْمَاخِضُ وَلَا الرُّبَّى وَلَا فَحْلَ الْغَنَمِ وَحَزْرَةُ الرَّجُلِ هُوَ أَحَقُّ بِهَا مِنْكَ وَلَا تَمَسَّ الْقُرْآنَ إِلَّا وَأَنْتَ طَاهِرٌ واعْلَمْ أَنَّ الْعُمْرَةَ هِي الْحَجُّ الْأَصْغَرُ وَأَنَّ عُمْرَةً خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا وَحَجَّةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عُمْرَةٍ»
English Translation
Uthman ibn Abi al-As said — and he was young: 'Our delegation went to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he found me to be the one who had memorized the most Quran among them, as I had surpassed them with Surah al-Baqarah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "I have appointed you as leader over your companions, though you are the youngest among them. When you lead a people in prayer, lead them according to the weakest among them, for behind you are the elderly, the young, the weak, and those with needs. When you are collecting zakah, do not take the pregnant she-camel, nor the one nursing its young, nor the breeding male. A man's prized possession is more rightfully his than yours. Do not touch the Quran unless you are in a state of purity. Know that Umrah is the lesser Hajj, and that one Umrah is better than the world and all that is in it, and one Hajj is better than one Umrah."'
