English Translation
Qudama ibn Maz'un narrated from his father that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) caught up with Uthman ibn Maz'un. He was on his riding camel and Uthman on his, at the pass of al-Uthaya near al-Arj. His camel pressed against Uthman's camel, while the Messenger of Allah's camel had gone ahead of the riders. Uthman ibn Maz'un said: 'You have hurt me, O lock of the tribulation.' When the camels settled, Umar came near him and said: 'May Allah forgive you, Abu al-Sa'ib. What is this name you called me?' He said: 'By Allah, I did not name you that. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) named you that. He is ahead of the riders, leading the people. You passed by us one day while we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he said: "This is the lock of the tribulation" — and he pointed with his hand — "There will remain a strongly locked gate between you and tribulation as long as this man lives among you."'
