English Translation
While Uthman ibn Hunayf was speaking to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) — he was a governor appointed by him — Umar became angry. Umar ibn al-Khattab grabbed a handful of gravel and threw it at him, and a stone struck his forehead and cut it, and blood flowed onto his beard. As if he regretted it, he said: 'Wipe the blood from your beard.' Uthman said: 'Do not let this trouble you, O Commander of the Faithful. By Allah, what I have done to those you appointed me over is worse than what you have done to me.' Umar was impressed by this and increased his favor toward him.
