Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8241 حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا مُلَازِمُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بَدْرٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ طَلْقٍ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا سِتَّةً وَفْدًا إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ خَمْسَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي حَنِيفَةَ وَالسَّادسُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي ضَبْعَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا عَلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ وَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ وَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ أَنَّ بِأَرْضِنَا بَيْعَةً لَنَا وَاسْتَوْهَبْنَاهُ مِنْ فَضْلِ طَهُورِهِ فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْهُ وَتَمَضْمَضَ ثُمَّ صَبَّهُ لَنَا فِي إِدَاوَةٍ قَالَ «اذْهَبُوا بِهَذَا الْمَاءِ فَإِذَا قَدِمْتُمْ بَلَدَكُمْ فَاكْسِرُوا بِيعَتَكُمْ ثُمَّ انْضَحُوا مَكَانَهَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ وَاتَّخِذُوا مَكَانَهَا مَسْجِدًا» فَقُلْنَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ الْبَلَدُ بَعِيدٌ وَالْمَاءُ يَنْشَفُ قَالَ «فَمُدُّوهُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَزِيدُهُ إِلَّا طِيبًا» فَخَرَجْنَا بِهَا حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا بَلَدَنَا فَفَعَلْنَا الَّذِي أَمَرَنَا وَرَاهَبَنَا ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ طَيِّئٍ فَنَادَيْنَا بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ الرَّاهِبُ دَعْوَةُ حَقٍّ ثُمَّ هَرَبَ فَلَمْ نَرَهُ بَعْدُ
English Translation
Talq ibn Ali said: We set out as a delegation of six to the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him), five from Banu Hanifa and the sixth a man from Banu Dab'a ibn Rabi'a. We came to the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) and prayed with him, and informed him that in our land we had a church. We asked him for some of the leftover water from his ablution. He called for water, performed ablution, rinsed his mouth, then poured it for us in a water-skin and said: 'Take this water. When you reach your land, demolish your church, sprinkle this water on its place, and make it a mosque.' We said: 'O Prophet of Allah, the land is far and the water will dry up.' He said: 'Add more water to it, for it will only increase it in goodness.' So we took it and traveled until we reached our land, and we did as he commanded us. On that day, our monk was a man from Tayy. We called the prayer, and the monk said: 'A call of truth.' Then he fled and we never saw him again.
