Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8156 حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ زَبْرِيقٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ ثنا جَدِّي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ وَعَمِّي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَا ثنا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ أَنَّهُ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ ادْعُ اللهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أُحَرِّمُ دَمَ ابْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَالْكُفَّارِ» قَالَ «فَكُنْتُ أَحْمِلُ فِي عِظَمِ الْقَوْمِ فَيَتَرَاءَى لِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ خَلْفَهُمْ» فَقَالُوا يَا ابْنَ ثَعْلَبَةَ لَتَغْرِزُ وَتَحْمِلُ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَتَرَاءَى لِي خَلْفَهُمْ فَأَحْمِلُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَتَّى أَقِفَ عِنْدَهُ ثُمَّ يَتَرَاءَى لِي عِنْدَ أَصْحَابِي فَأَحْمِلُ حَتَّى أَكُونَ مَعَ أَصْحَابِي» قَالَ فَعُمِّرَ زَمَانًا مِنْ دَهْرِهِ
English Translation
The son of Tha'labah came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: "Pray to Allah for me for martyrdom." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "O Allah, I make the blood of the son of Tha'labah forbidden to the polytheists and disbelievers." He said: "I would charge into the midst of the people, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) would appear to me behind them." They said: "O son of Tha'labah, you charge boldly at the people!" He said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) appears to me behind them, so I charge at them until I stand beside him. Then he appears to me by my companions, so I charge until I am with my companions." He said: He lived for a long time after that.
