Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:7884 حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ شَابُورٍ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاتِكَةِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَزَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَأُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ الْجَدْعَاءِ فَلَمَّا بَرَزُوا سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ فَوَقَفَ يَسْتَمِعُ فَلَمَّا قَالَ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «شَهِدَ هَذَا وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ بِشَهَادَةِ الْحَقِّ» فَلَمَّا قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ قَالَ «بَرِئَ هَذَا وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مِنَ النَّارِ» ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «هَذَا صَاحِبُ كِلَابٍ» فَذَهَبَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَوَجَدُوهُ كَذَلِكَ
English Translation
Abu Umamah said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) went out one day with Abu Bakr, 'Umar, Zayd ibn Thabit, 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Ubayy ibn Ka'b, and 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas, while the Prophet was on his she-camel al-Jadh'a'. When they went out, the Prophet heard a man saying 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.' He stopped to listen. When the man said 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar,' the Messenger of Allah said: 'This one has testified - by the One in Whose Hand is my soul - with the testimony of truth.' When the man said 'Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah,' he said: 'This one has been freed - by the One in Whose Hand is my soul - from the Fire' - three times. Then the Messenger of Allah said: 'This is a herder of dogs (i.e., a shepherd).' Ibn Mas'ud and Ibn 'Abbas went and found him to be exactly that."
