Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:7553 حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَنْبَرٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ ومُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ شَاهِينَ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا أَبُو عَزَّةَ الدَّبَّاغُ حَدَّثَنِي شَهْرُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ بِدِمَشْقَ فَجَاءُوا بِرُءُوسٍ فَوَضَعُوهَا عَلَى دَرَجِ مَسْجِدِ دِمَشْقَ فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَبْكِي فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مَا يُبْكِيكَ يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ فِي أُمَّتِي أُنَاسٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يَتَجَاوَزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَنْتَثِرُونَهُ كَمَا يَنْتَثِرُ الدَّقَلُ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ حَتَّى يَعُودَ السَّهْمُ عَلَى فَوْقِهِ شَرُّ قَتْلَى تَحْتَ السَّمَاءِ طُوبَى لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ وَقَتَلُوهُ»
English Translation
Abu Umamah reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say, 'There will be people from my Ummah who recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. They will scatter it as scattered dates scatter. They will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through game, then they will never return to it until the arrow returns to its notch. They are the worst of those killed under the sky. Glad tidings to whoever kills them and whom they kill.'
