Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:5669 حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَغَوِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا زَمْعَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا اطَّلَعَ مِنْ جُحْرٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِدْرًى يَحُكُّ بِهِ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ «لَوْ أَنِّي أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَنْظُرُ لَقُمْتُ حَتَّى أَطْعَنَ بِهِ فِي عَيْنِكَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِذْنُ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْبَصَرِ»
English Translation
Sahl ibn Sa'd narrated that a man peeked through a hole at the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah had a comb with which he was scratching his head. He said: "If I had known you were looking, I would have stood and thrust it into your eye. Seeking permission was only ordained because of the gaze."
