Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:5515 Then I asked permission to enter and he set up and said to ʿAʿishah: ʿCover yourself properly.ʿ I fulfilled my need then I went away, ʿAʿishah said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, why did I not see you stirring for Abu Bakr and ‘Umar as you did for ʿUthman? The Messenger of Allah (SWT) said: ʿʿUthman is a shy man, and I was afraid that if I gave him permission to enter when I was in that state, he would not tell me of his need.ʿ Al-Laith said: Some people said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ʿAʿishah ؓ : ʿShould I not feel shy before a man before whom the angels feel shy?ʿ Saʿeed bin al-ʿAs narrated that ʿUthman and ʿAʿishah narrated that Abu Bakr asked for permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was lying down on his bed, wearing the cover of ʿAʿishah. And he narrated a hadeeth similar to that of ‘Uqail. (Using translation from Aḥmad 514) حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَخِي عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي عَتِيقٍ وَمُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ قَالَ
English Translation
Sa'id ibn al-'As narrated that 'Uthman and 'A'ishah reported that Abu Bakr asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) while he was lying on his bed wearing 'A'ishah's cover. He gave Abu Bakr permission and attended to his need while remaining as he was. Then 'Umar asked permission and was given it. Then 'Uthman asked permission, and the Prophet sat up and said to 'A'ishah: "Cover yourself properly." After 'Uthman left, 'A'ishah said: "O Messenger of Allah, why did you not adjust yourself for Abu Bakr and 'Umar as you did for 'Uthman?" He said: "'Uthman is a shy man, and I feared if I gave him permission while in that state, he would not convey his need." Al-Layth said: Some people said the Prophet told 'A'ishah: "Should I not be shy before a man whom the angels are shy before?"
