English Translation
Zubayd ibn al-Salt said: We went out with 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, and there was a woman on the road. 'Umar greeted her, and she greeted him. She said: "Hold on, O 'Umar! I knew you when you were called 'Umayr in the market of 'Ukaz, striking the boys with your staff. Days passed, and you became 'Umar. Then days passed, and you became Commander of the Faithful. So fear Allah regarding your subjects." A man said: "You have spoken too harshly to the Commander of the Faithful." 'Umar said: "Leave her. Do you not know who she is? She is Khawlah bint Hakim — the woman whose speech Allah heard from above the seven heavens. 'Umar, by Allah, is more worthy of listening to her."
