Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:516 حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ وَزَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى السَّاجِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ قَالُوا ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمْرَانَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ الْهُجَيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أُسَامَةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَثَرَ بَعِيرُنَا فَقُلْتُ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّهُ يَعْظُمُ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيَقُولَ بِقُوَّتِي قُلْ بِسْمِ اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَصِيرُ مِثْلَ الذُّبَابِ
English Translation
Usamah narrated: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) when our camel stumbled. I said: "May Satan be cursed!" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Do not say 'May Satan be cursed,' for when you say that, he swells with pride until he becomes like a house, and says: 'By my strength!' But say: 'In the name of Allah,' for when you say that, he shrinks until he becomes like a fly."
