English Translation
Zayd ibn Arqam said: We descended with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) at a valley called the Valley of Khumm. He ordered the prayer, and he performed it in the midday heat. Then he addressed us, and a cloth was spread over a tree to shade the Messenger of Allah from the sun. He said: "Do you not know that I am more worthy of every believing man and woman than their own selves?" They said: "Yes." He said: "Whoever I am his master, then 'Ali is his master. O Allah, befriend whoever befriends him, and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him."
