Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:5073 حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا حَسَنُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنِ الْأَغَرِّ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ عَنْ خَلِيفَةَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أُبَيٍّ فَمَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي أُنَاسٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ {لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ} فَأَتَيْتُ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أُبَيٍّ فَحَلَفَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ بِاللهِ مَا تَكَلَّمَ بِهَذَا فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا أَخْبَرَنِيهِ الْغُلَامُ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ فَجَاءَ سَعْدٌ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي فَانْطَلَقَ بِي فَقَالَ هَذَا حَدَّثَنِي قَالَ فَانْتَهَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ وَبَكَيْتُ وَقُلْتُ إِيْ وَالَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكَ النُّورَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ لَقَدْ قَالَهُ قَالَ وَانْصَرَفَ عَنْهُ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ} إِلَى آخِرِ السُّورَةِ
English Translation
Zayd ibn Arqam said: I was sitting with 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed by with some of his Companions. 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy said: "If we return to Madinah, the mightier shall expel the lowlier from it." I went to Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah and informed him, and he went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and mentioned it to him. The Messenger of Allah sent for 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy, and he swore by Allah that he had not said it. The Messenger of Allah looked at Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah, who said: "O Messenger of Allah, the boy Zayd ibn Arqam told me." Sa'd came, took my hand, and brought me forward, saying: "This one told me." 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy rebuked me. I went to the Messenger of Allah and wept, saying: "Yes, by the One who sent down upon you the Light and Prophethood, he said it!" The Prophet (peace be upon him) turned away from him, and then Allah Most High revealed: "When the hypocrites come to you..." until the end of the Surah.
