Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:5053 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ {§لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ} {وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ} جَاءَ ابْنُ أُمُّ مَكْتُومٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَمَا لِي رُخْصَةٌ؟ قَالَ «لَا» قَالَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي ضَرِيرٌ فَرَخَّصْ لِي فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ {غَيْرٌ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ} فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِكِتَابَتِهَا
English Translation
Zayd ibn Arqam said: When the verse was revealed — "Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and those who strive in the cause of Allah" (4:95) — Ibn Umm Maktum came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, is there no exemption for me?" He said: "No." Ibn Umm Maktum said: "O Allah, I am blind, so grant me an exemption." Then Allah revealed: "other than those with disabilities" (4:95). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered it to be written down.
