Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:3623 حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَغَوِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ رَاشِدٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةً فَأَطَالَهَا فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّيْتَ صَلَاةً لَمْ تَكُنْ تُصَلِّيهَا قَالَ «أَجَلْ إِنَّهَا صَلَاةُ رَغَبٍ وَرَهَبٍ وَإِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي فِيهَا ثَلَاثًا فَأَعْطَانِي اثْنَتَيْنِ وَمَنَعَنِي وَاحِدَةً سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُهْلِكَ أُمَّتِي بِسُنَّةٍ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَلَّا يُسَلِّطَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَدُوًّا مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُذِيقَ بَعْضَهُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ فَمَنَعَنِيهَا»
English Translation
Khabbab narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed a long prayer. They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you prayed a prayer you did not use to pray.' He said: 'Indeed, it was a prayer of hope and fear. I asked my Lord for three things, and He gave me two and denied me one. I asked Him not to destroy my Ummah by a drought (or calamity), and He gave me that. I asked Him not to give an external enemy power over them, and He gave me that. And I asked Him not to make them taste each other's violence, and He denied me.'
