Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:3621 حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ وَمُوسَى بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ثنا شُعَيْبٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ عَنْ أَبِيه خَبَّابٍ أَنَّهُ رَاقَبَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةً فَصَلَّى حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مَعَ الْفَجْرِ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَأَيْتُكَ اللَّيْلَةَ صَلَّيْتَ صَلَاةً مَا رَأَيْتُكَ صَلَّيْتَ مِثْلَهَا؟ قَالَ «أَجَلْ إِنَّهَا صَلَاةُ رَغَبٍ وَرَهَبٍ سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي ﷻ ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ فَأَعْطَانِي اثْنَتَيْنِ وَمَنَعَنِي وَاحِدَةٍ سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُهْلِكَنَا بِمَا أَهْلَكَ بِهِ الْأُمَمَ فَأَعْطَانِي ذَلِكَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُسَلِّطَ عَلَيْنَا عَدُوًّا فَيُهْلِكُونا فَأَعْطَانِي ذَلِكَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يَلْبِسَ أُمَّتِي شِيَعًا فَمَنَعَنِي»
English Translation
Khabbab narrated that he watched the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) one night as he prayed until near dawn. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I saw you pray tonight a prayer the like of which I have never seen you pray.' He said: 'Indeed, it was a prayer of hope and fear. I asked my Lord for three things, and He gave me two and denied me one. I asked Him not to destroy us by what He destroyed the nations before us, and He granted me that. I asked Him not to give an external enemy power over us to annihilate us, and He granted me that. And I asked Him not to clothe us in factions (sects), and He denied me.'
