English Translation
Zayd ibn Wahb said: 'We traveled with him - meaning Ali - when he returned from Siffin, until we were at the gate of Kufa, and there were seven graves to our right. Ali said: What are these graves? They said: O Commander of the Faithful, Khabbab ibn al-Aratt died after your departure to Siffin, and he bequeathed that he be buried in the outskirts of Kufa - the people used to bury their dead in their courtyards and at the doors of their houses. When they saw that Khabbab had bequeathed to be buried in the outskirts, the people also began burying there. Ali said: May Allah have mercy on Khabbab. He accepted Islam willingly, emigrated obediently, lived as a mujahid, and was tested in his body for years. Allah will not waste the reward of one who did good.'
