Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:3425 حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْخُزَاعِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا خَلَفُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ خَلَفٍ ثنا أَبِي ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ السَّقَطِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَا ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ خَلَفٍ الْعَمِّيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ مَمْطُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَرْبَعٌ بَقِينَ فِي أُمَّتِي مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَيْسُوا بِتَارِكِيهَا الْفَخْرُ بِالْأَحْسَابِ وَالطَّعْنُ فِي الْأَنْسَابِ وَالِاسْتِسْقَاءُ بِالنُّجُومِ وَالنِّيَاحَةُ وَإِنَّ النَّائِحَةَ إِذَا لَمْ تَتُبْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَمُوتَ جَاءَتْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَيْهَا سِرْبَالٌ مِنْ قَطِرَانٍ وَدِرْعٌ مِنْ لَهَبِ النَّارِ قَالَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ «تَرَكْنَا النِّيَاحَةَ حِينَ تَرَكْنَا اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّى»
English Translation
Narrated Abu Malik al-Ash'ari: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'Four things remain in my Ummah from the practices of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance) that they will not abandon: pride in lineage, slandering people's ancestry, seeking rain through stars, and wailing over the dead. If the wailing woman does not repent before she dies, she will come on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of tar and a shield of flaming fire.' Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said, 'We abandoned wailing when we abandoned al-Lat and al-Uzza.'
