Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:2925 حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْخَفَّافُ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيَّ يَقُولُ كَانَ إِسْلَامُ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ حَمِيَّةً وَكَانَ رَجُلًا رَامِيًا وَكَانَ يَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْحَرَمِ فَيَصْطَادُ فَإِذَا رَجَعَ مَرَّ بِمَجْلِسِ قُرَيْشٍ وَكَانُوا يَجْلِسُونَ عِنْدَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَيَمُرُّ بِهِمْ فَيَقُولُ رَمَيْتُ كَذَا وَصَنَعَتُ كَذَا وَكَذَا ثُمَّ يَنْطَلِقُ إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ وَأَقْبَلَ مِنْ رَمْيِهِ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَقِيَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا أَبَا عُمَارَةَ §مَاذَا لَقِيَ ابْنُ أَخِيكَ مِنْ أَبِي جَهْلِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ؟ وَتَنَاوَلَهُ وَفَعَلَ بِهِ وَفَعَلَ فَقَالَ «هَلْ رَآهُ أَحَدٌ؟» قَالَتْ إِي وَاللهِ لَقَدْ رَآهُ نَاسٌ فَأَقْبَلَ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى ذَلِكَ الْمَجْلِسِ عِنْدَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَإِذَا هُمْ جُلُوسٌ وَأَبُو جَهْلٍ فِيهِمْ فَاتَّكَأَ عَلَى قَوْسِهِ فَقَالَ «رَمَيْتُ كَذَا وَفَعَلْتُ كَذَا» ثُمَّ جَمَعَ يَدَهُ بِالْقَوْسِ فَضَرَبَ بِهَا بَيْنَ أُذُنَيْ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَدَقَّ سِيَتَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «خُذْهَا بِالْقَوْسِ وَأُخْرَى بِالسَّيْفِ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَّهُ جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ» قَالُوا يَا أَبَا عُمَارَةَ إِنَّهُ سَبَّ آلِهَتَنَا وَلَوْ كُنْتَ أَنْتَ وَأَنْتَ أَفْضَلُ مِنْهُ مَا أَقْرَرْنَاكَ وَذَاكَ وَمَا كُنْتَ يَا أَبَا عُمَارَةَ فَاحِشًا
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi said: The Islam of Hamzah ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah have mercy on him) was out of zeal. He was a man who hunted with a bow. He would go out of the sacred precinct to hunt, and when he returned, he would pass by the gathering place of the Quraysh, who used to sit near al-Safa and al-Marwah. He would say: "I shot such-and-such and did such-and-such," then go on his way. One day, returning from his hunt, a woman met him and said: "O Abu 'Umarah! If you had seen what your nephew suffered from Abu Jahl ibn Hisham — he attacked him and did such-and-such to him!" He said: "Did anyone see that?" She said: "Yes, by Allah, people saw it." He went straight to that gathering near al-Safa and al-Marwah. There they were sitting, with Abu Jahl among them. He leaned on his bow and said: "I shot such-and-such and did such-and-such." Then he gathered his fist around the bow and struck Abu Jahl between his ears, breaking the tip of the bow. Then he said: "Take this blow with the bow, and another shall come with the sword! I bear witness that he is the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and that he has brought the truth from Allah." They said: "O Abu 'Umarah, he insulted our gods! Even if it were you — and you are nobler than him — we would not tolerate it!" He said: "And you, O Abu 'Umarah, were never one for foul speech."
