Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:12450 حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ وَعَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ قَالَا ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ الْمَعْنِيُّ ثنا أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ لَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَرَأَ النَّجْمَ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ {أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّى} {وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَى} أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ عَلَى لِسَانِهِ تِلْكَ الْغَرَانِيقُ الْعُلَى وَشَفَاعَتُهُنْ لَتُرْتَجَى فَلَمَّا سَجَدَ سَجَدَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ وَلَا نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا إِذَا تَمَنَّى أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَقِيمٍ} يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ
English Translation
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) recited Surah al-Najm, and when he reached: {Have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza and Manat, the third, the other one?} — Satan cast upon his tongue: 'Those are the exalted cranes, and their intercession is to be hoped for.' When he prostrated, the Muslims and the polytheists all prostrated. Then Allah, the Exalted, revealed: {And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he spoke, Satan threw into it. But Allah abolishes that which Satan throws in...} up to His saying: {the punishment of a barren Day} — meaning the Day of Badr.
