English Translation
Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to Ali: 'Hand me a handful of pebbles.' He handed them to him, and he threw them at the faces of the people. There was not a single person among them whose eyes were not filled with pebbles. Then the verse was revealed: {And you did not throw when you threw, but it was Allah who threw} [8:17].
