Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:1078 حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ أَنَّ بِلَالًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُؤْذِنُهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ مَرَّةً فَقِيلَ إِنَّهُ نَائِمٌ فَنَادَى «الصَّلَاةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ النَّوْمِ» فَأُقِرَّتْ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ
English Translation
Bilal came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) to inform him of the prayer and was told he was sleeping. He called out: "Prayer is better than sleep" — twice. So it was established in the adhan of the Fajr prayer.
