English Translation
Ibn Abbas narrated: Abdullah ibn Abbas came seeking permission to visit Aisha. I came and at her head was her nephew Abdullah ibn Abdur-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr. I said: 'This is Ibn Abbas seeking permission.' Her nephew leaned over her and said: 'This is Ibn Abbas seeking permission.' She said: 'Leave me from Ibn Abbas; I have no need of him.' He said: 'O mother, Ibn Abbas is one of your righteous sons. He wants to greet you and bid you farewell.' She said: 'Allow him in if you wish.' I brought him in, and when he sat, he said: 'Rejoice!' She said: 'Again?' He said: 'Between you and meeting Muhammad (peace be upon him) is only that the soul departs from the body. You were the most beloved of the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to him, and the Messenger of Allah did not love except what was good. Your necklace fell on the night of al-Abwa', and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stayed until morning at that place, and the people woke without water. Then Allah revealed: {Then perform tayammum with clean earth.} [4:43] That was because of you and the concession Allah brought for this ummah. And Allah sent down your innocence from above the seven heavens, brought by the Trustworthy Spirit (Jibril), and there is no mosque among the mosques of Allah where Allah is mentioned except that these verses are recited in it day and night.' She said: 'Leave me, O Ibn Abbas. By the One in whose hand is my soul, I wish I had been something forgotten and discarded.'
