Arabic (Original)
وعن عروة عن عائشة، رضي الله عنها، أنها كانت تقول: والله يا ابن اختي إن كنا لننظر إلى الهلال، ثم الهلال: ثلاثة أهلة في شهرين، وما أوقد في أبيات رسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ، نار. قلت: يا خالة فما كان يعيشكم؟ قالت: الأسودان: التمر والماء، إلا أنه قد كان لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم جيران من الأنصار، وكانت لهم منائح وكانوا يرسلون إلى رسول الله من ألبانها فيسقينا. ((متفق عليه)).
English Translation
'Urwah from Hadrat 'Aishah (may Allah be well pleased with her) reported that she used to say to Urwah (may Allah be well pleased with him):"O son of my sister, by Allah, I used to see the new moon, then the new moon, then the new moon, i.e., three moons in two months, and a fire was not kindled in the house of Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). "I ('Urwah) said, "O my aunt, what were your means of sustenance?" She said; "Dates and water. But it (so happened) that Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had some Ansar neighbours who had milch animals. They used to send Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) some milk of their (animals) and he gave that to us to drink.".
Urdu Translation
حضرت عروہ فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا فرمایا کرتی تھیں: واللہ اے میرے بھانجے! ہم چاند دیکھتے تھے، پھر چاند، پھر چاند - دو ماہ میں تین چاند - اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے گھروں میں آگ نہیں جلتی تھی (یعنی کھانا نہیں پکتا تھا)۔ میں نے عرض کیا: اے خالہ! تو پھر آپ لوگوں کی گزر کس چیز سے ہوتی تھی؟ انہوں نے فرمایا: دو سیاہ چیزوں سے: کھجور اور پانی۔ البتہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے کچھ انصاری پڑوسی تھے جن کے پاس دودھ دینے والے جانور تھے، وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو ان کے دودھ میں سے بھیجا کرتے تھے اور آپ ہمیں پلاتے تھے۔ (متفق علیہ)
