Arabic (Original)
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَأَخْرَجَ مِنْ كُمِّهِ قُصَّةً مِنْ شَعْرٍ فَقَالَ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ وَقَالَ " إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَ نِسَاؤُهُمْ مِثْلَ هَذَا " .
English Translation
It is narrated that Hadrat Humaid bin 'Abdur-Rahman (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: "I heard Hadrat Mu'awiyah say, when he was on the Minbar in Al-Madinah, and he brought out a hairpiece from his sleeve: 'O people of Al-Madinah, where are your knowledgeable ones? I heard the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) [SAW] forbid such things as this, and he said: "The Children of Israel were destroyed when their women started to wear things like this
Urdu Translation
حضرت حمید بن عبد الرحمٰن رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں: میں نے حضرت معاویہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو سنا جب وہ مدینہ میں منبر پر تھے اور انہوں نے اپنے محافظ سے بالوں کا ایک گچھا نکالا اور فرمایا: اے اہل مدینہ! تمہارے علماء کہاں ہیں؟ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو اس جیسی چیز سے منع فرماتے سنا ہے اور فرمایا: بنی اسرائیل تباہ ہوئے جب ان کی عورتوں نے یہ اختیار کیا۔
