أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتِ اسْتَعَارَتِ امْرَأَةٌ عَلَى أَلْسِنَةِ أُنَاسٍ يُعْرَفُونَ - وَهِيَ لاَ تُعْرَفُ - حُلِيًّا فَبَاعَتْهُ وَأَخَذَتْ ثَمَنَهُ فَأُتِيَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَسَعَى أَهْلُهَا إِلَى أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ فَكَلَّمَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِيهَا فَتَلَوَّنَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَهُوَ يُكَلِّمُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَتَشْفَعُ إِلَىَّ فِي حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ اللَّهِ " . فَقَالَ أُسَامَةُ اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ . ثُمَّ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَشِيَّتَئِذٍ فَأَثْنَى عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ " أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ النَّاسُ قَبْلَكُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا سَرَقَ الشَّرِيفُ فِيهِمْ تَرَكُوهُ وَإِذَا سَرَقَ الضَّعِيفُ فِيهِمْ أَقَامُوا عَلَيْهِ الْحَدَّ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوْ أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ مُحَمَّدٍ سَرَقَتْ لَقَطَعْتُ يَدَهَا " . ثُمَّ قَطَعَ تِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةَ .
English Translation
It is narrated that Hadrat ' Aishah (may Allah be well pleased with her) said: "A woman borrowed some jewelry, saying that other people whose names were known but hers was not then she sold it and kept the money. She was brought to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and her people went to Hadrat Usamah bin Zaid, who spoke to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) concerning her. The face of ht Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) changed color while he was speaking to him. Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said to him: 'Are you interceding with me concerning one of ht Hadd punishments decreed by Allah?' Hadrat Usamah said: 'Pray for forgiveness for me, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stood up that evening, he praised and glorified Allah, the mighty and sublime, as he deserves, then he said: 'The people who came before you were destroyed because, whenever a noble person among them stole, they let him go. But if a low-class person stole, they would carry out the punishment on him. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), if Hadrat Fatimah bint Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) were to steal, I would cut off her hand.' Urdu Translation
حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا فرماتی ہیں: ایک عورت نے ایسے لوگوں کے نام پر زیور مستعار لیا جو معروف تھے جبکہ وہ عورت خود معروف نہ تھی، پھر اس نے وہ زیور بیچ کر اس کی قیمت رکھ لی۔ اسے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس لایا گیا۔ اس کے گھر والوں نے حضرت اسامہ بن زید رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے سفارش کرائی۔ انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے بات کی تو آپ کا چہرہ مبارک متغیر ہو گیا۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: کیا تم اللہ کی حدود میں سے ایک حد کے بارے میں مجھ سے سفارش کرتے ہو؟ حضرت اسامہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! میرے لیے استغفار فرمائیں۔ پھر اس شام رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کھڑے ہوئے، اللہ عزوجل کی حمد و ثنا بیان فرمائی جیسی وہ مستحق ہے، پھر فرمایا: حمد و صلاۃ کے بعد! تم سے پہلے لوگ اس لیے ہلاک ہوئے کہ جب ان میں کوئی شریف آدمی چوری کرتا تو اسے چھوڑ دیتے اور جب کوئی کمزور چوری کرتا تو اس پر حد قائم کرتے۔ اس ذات کی قسم جس کے ہاتھ میں محمد کی جان ہے! اگر فاطمہ بنت محمد بھی چوری کرتی تو میں اس کا ہاتھ کاٹتا۔ پھر اس عورت کا ہاتھ کاٹ دیا۔
