Arabic (Original)
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَوْسٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ، يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا وَأَحَبُّ الصَّلاَةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صَلاَةُ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَنَامُ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ وَيَقُومُ ثُلُثَهُ وَيَنَامُ سُدُسَهُ " .
English Translation
It is narrated by Hadrat 'Amr (may Allah be well pleased with him) bin Aws that he heard Hadrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-'As say:"The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'The most beloved of fasting to Allah is the fasting of Dawud (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). He used to fast one day and not the next. And the most beloved of prayer to Allah (SWT) is the prayer of Dawud (upon him be peace). He used to sleep half the night, spend one-third of the night in prayer and sleep for one-sixth of it
Urdu Translation
حضرت عبداللہ بن حضرت عمرو بن العاص رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہم فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ کے نزدیک سب سے محبوب روزے داود علیہ السلام کے روزے ہیں، وہ ایک دن روزہ رکھتے تھے اور ایک دن افطار کرتے تھے، اور اللہ تعالیٰ کے نزدیک بہترین نماز داود علیہ السلام کی نماز ہے، وہ آدھی رات تک سوتے تھے، پھر تہائی رات تک نماز پڑھتے، پھر چھٹے حصہ میں سو جاتے تھے۔
