English Translation
Narrated Ata' ibn Abi Rabah: Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) met Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and asked him: What you say about the exchange of currency (bay' al-sarf) — did you hear it from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), or did you find it in the Holy Book of Allah the Exalted? Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Not at all; I do not say any such thing. You know the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) better than I, and I do not know (this ruling) in the Book of Allah the Exalted either; but Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith to me, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Beware! Riba (usury) is only in credit (deferred transactions)." (But the hadith of Usamah ibn Zayd, according to some scholars, is abrogated in ruling; and some said it is to be interpreted, namely, that it applies to those goods that are not subject to riba, and so on; or this hadith is undetailed (mujmal).) Urdu Translation
سیدنا عطاء بن ابی رباح سے روایت ہے کہسیدنا ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے ملے اور ان سے پوچھا کہ تم جو بیع صرف کے بارے میں کہتے ہو تو کیا تم نے یہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے سنا ہے یا اللہ تعالیٰ کے کلام پاک میں پایا ہے؟ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ ہرگز نہیں میں ایسا کچھ نہیں کہتا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو تم مجھ سے زیادہ جانتے ہو اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی کتاب میں بھی (اس حکم کو) نہیں جانتا لیکن سیدنا اسامہ بن زید رضی اللہ عنہ نے مجھ سے یہ حدیث بیان کی کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا خبردار! کہ ادھار میں سود ہے۔ (لیکن حدیث اسامہ بن زید بعض علماء کے نزدیک منسوخ الحکم ہے اور بعض نے کہا کہ اس کی تاویل ہو گی اور وہ یہ کہ ان اموال پر محمول ہیں جو سودی نہیں وغیرہ۔ یا یہ حدیث مجمل ہے)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 953]
