English Translation
Narrated Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "No woman may mourn for a dead person more than three days, except that a wife mourns for her husband four months and ten days. And (during this period of waiting) she should not wear a dyed garment except a garment of asb (a Yemeni cloth dyed before weaving), nor apply kohl, nor touch perfume — except that when she becomes pure (from menses) she may use a small piece of qust or azfar (a kind of perfume)." [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 864]
Urdu Translation
سیدہ ام عطیہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: کوئی عورت کسی میت پر تین دن سے زیادہ سوگ نہیں کر سکتی، البتہ بیوی اپنے خاوند پرچار مہینے اور دس دن سوگ کرے گی۔ اور (اس عدت کی مدت میں) رنگا ہوا کپڑا نہ پہنے مگر”عصب“کا کپڑا اور سرمہ نہ لگائے اور خوشبو کو ہاتھ تک نہ لگائے مگر جب (حیض سے) پاک ہو تو ایک پھایا قسط یا اظفار (ایک قسم کی خوشبو) کا استعمال کر سکتی ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 864]
