English Translation

Narrated Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) married and went in to his pure wife (may Allah be pleased with her), and my mother Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) prepared some hays (a dish of dates, clarified butter, and dried curd) and placed it on a platter and said: O Anas! Take this to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) (from this it is established that it is recommended to send food to the new bridegroom to assist with the wedding feast), and say: My mother has sent this specifically for you (peace be upon him), and she conveys her greetings (salam), and says: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! This is a very small gift to you from us. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: So I took it to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: My mother has sent me to you (peace be upon him), and conveys her greetings, and says: This is a very small gift to you (peace be upon him) from us. He (peace be upon him) said: "Set it down," and said, "Go and call so-and-so and so-and-so to us, and whomever you meet," and he named several persons. So I brought those whom he named and also those whom I met. The narrator says: I asked Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): How many were they in number altogether? He said: They were about three hundred. And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to me: "O Anas! Bring the platter." Then the people came in, until the porch (suffah) and the room were filled (the suffah is the place made for sitting outside, called a guest hall). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Let ten men gather in a circle at a time (i.e., when they finish, let another ten sit), and let each person eat from what is nearest to him (i.e., do not break off the top of the food, for blessing descends from there)." Then those people ate until all were satisfied, and one group would eat and leave, and another would come, until all the people had eaten. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me: "O Anas, lift up this (vessel)." So I lifted the vessel, and I could not tell whether there was more food in it when I set it down or when I lifted it up. Some people began to sit in the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and talk, while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was sitting, and his pure wife (i.e., Umm al-Mu'minin Zaynab, may Allah be pleased with her) sat with her face turned toward the wall. Their sitting was displeasing to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), so he (peace be upon him) went out and greeted all his pure wives (may Allah be pleased with them) and returned. Then when those people saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) (return, they realized) that they had become a burden upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), so they quickly went to the door and all of them went out. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came and drew the curtain and entered, while I was sitting in the chamber. Then a little while passed, and he (peace be upon him) came out to me, and these verses had been revealed to him (peace be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out and recited them to the people: "O you who believe! Do not enter the houses of the Prophet (peace be upon him) unless permission is given to you for a meal, without awaiting its preparation. But when you are invited, then enter, and when you have eaten, disperse, without lingering for conversation. Indeed, that troubles the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he is shy of (dismissing) you, but Allah is not shy of (stating) the truth..." to the end of the verse. (al-Ahzab: 53). The narrator of the hadith, al-Ja'd, said that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was the first to hear these verses and to whom they reached, and the pure wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) began to observe the veil (hijab). سیدنا انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے نکاح کیا اور اپنی زوجہ مطہرہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس داخل ہوئے اور میری ماں ام سلیم رضی اللہ عنہا نے کچھ حیس بنایا اور اس کو ایک طباق میں رکھ کر کہا کہ اے انس! اس کو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس لے جا (اس سے ثابت ہوا کہ نئے دولہا کے پاس کھانا بھیجنا جس سے ولیمہ میں مدد ہو مستحب ہے) اور عرض کرنا کہ یہ میری ماں نے آپ خاص آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے لئے ہی کی خدمت میں بھیجا ہے اور سلام عرض کیا ہے اور عرض کرتی ہے کہ اے اللہ کے رسولصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم! آپ کی خدمت میں ہماری طرف سے یہ بہت چھوٹا سا ہدیہ ہے۔ سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ پھر میں وہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس لے گیا اور میں نے عرض کیا کہ میری ماں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی خدمت میں مجھے بھیجا ہے اور سلام کہا ہے اور عرض کرتی ہیں کہ یہ ہماری طرف سے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی خدمت میں بہت تھوڑا ہدیہ ہے، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ رکھ دو اور جاؤ فلاں فلاں شخص کو ہمارے پاس بلاؤ اور جو تمہیں مل جائے اور کئی شخصوں کے نام لئے۔ پس میں ان کو بھی لایا جن کا نام لیا اور ان کو بھی جو مجھے مل گیا۔ راوی کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا کہ پھر وہ سب لوگ گنتی میں کتنے تھے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ تین سو کے قریب تھے اور مجھ سے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اے انس! وہ طباق لاؤ پھر وہ لوگ اندر آئے یہاں تک کہ صفہ چبوترہ اور حجرہ بھر گیا (صفہ وہ جگہ جو باہر بیٹھنے کی بنائی جائے جسے دیوان خانہ کہتے ہیں) پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ دس دس آدمی حلقہ باندھتے جائیں (یعنی جب وہ کھا لیں پھر دوسرے دس بیٹھیں) اور چاہئے کہ ہر شخص اپنے نزدیک سے کھائے (یعنی کھانے کی چوٹی نہ توڑے کہ برکت وہیں سے نازل ہوتی ہے) پھر ان لوگوں نے یہاں تک کھایا کہ سب سیر ہو گئے اور ایک گروہ کھا کر جاتا تھا تو دوسرا آتا تھا یہاں تک کہ سب لوگ کھا چکے، تو نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مجھ سے فرمایا کہ انس اس (برتن) کو اٹھا لے اور میں نے اس برتن کو اٹھایا تو معلوم نہ ہوتا تھا کہ جب میں نے رکھا تھا تب زیادہ تھا یا جب میں نے اٹھایا تب اس میں کھانا زیادہ تھا۔ اور بعض لوگ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے گھر میں بیٹھے باتیں کرنا شروع ہو گئے اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمبیٹھے تھے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی زوجہ مطہرہ (یعنی ام المؤمنین زینب رضی اللہ عنہا) دیوار کی طرف منہ پھیرے بیٹھی ہوئی تھیں۔ ان لوگوں کا بیٹھنا رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو ناگوار گزر رہا تھا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمباہر نکلے اور اپنی تمام ازواج مطہرات رضی اللہ عنہن کو سلام کرتے ہوئے لوٹ کر آئے۔ پھر جب ان لوگوں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دیکھا کہ ہم نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپر بوجھ بنے ہوئے ہیں، تو جلدی سے دروازے پر گئے اور سب کے سب باہر نکل گئے اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمآئے یہاں تک کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے پردہ ڈال دیا اور اندر داخل ہوئے اور میں حجرے میں بیٹھا ہوا تھا پھر تھوڑی دیر ہوئی ہو گی کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممیری طرف نکلے اور یہ آیتیں آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپر نازل ہوئی تھیں اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے باہر نکل کر لوگوں پر پڑھیں کہ”اے ایمان والو! جب تک تمہیں اجازت نہ دی جائے تم نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے گھروں میں نہ جایا کرو کھانے کے لئے ایسے وقت میں کہ اس کے پکنے کا انتظار کرتے رہو بلکہ جب بلایا جائے (تو) جاؤ اور جب (کھانا) کھا چکو تو نکل کھڑے ہو، وہیں باتوں میں مشغول نہ ہو جایا کرو۔ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) کو تمہاری اس بات سے تکلیف ہوتی ہے۔ وہ تو لحاظ کر جاتے ہیں اور اللہ تعالیٰ (بیان) حق میں کسی کا لحاظ نہیں کرتا ....“آخر آیت تک۔ (الاحزاب: 53)۔ (راوی حدیث) جعد نے کہا کہ سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ سب سے پہلے یہ آیتیں میں نے سنی ہیں اور مجھے پہنچی ہیں اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی ازواج مطہرات پردہ میں رہنے لگیں۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 824]سیدنا انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے نکاح کیا اور اپنی زوجہ مطہرہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس داخل ہوئے اور میری ماں ام سلیم رضی اللہ عنہا نے کچھ حیس بنایا اور اس کو ایک طباق میں رکھ کر کہا کہ اے انس! وہ طباق لاؤ پھر وہ لوگ اندر آئے یہاں تک کہ صفہ چبوترہ اور حجرہ بھر گیا (صفہ وہ جگہ جو باہر بیٹھنے کی بنائی جائے جسے دیوان خانہ کہتے ہیں) پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ دس دس آدمی حلقہ باندھتے جائیں (یعنی جب وہ کھا لیں پھر دوسرے دس بیٹھیں) اور چاہئے کہ ہر شخص اپنے نزدیک سے کھائے (یعنی کھانے کی چوٹی نہ توڑے کہ برکت وہیں سے نازل ہوتی ہے) پھر ان لوگوں نے یہاں تک کھایا کہ سب سیر ہو گئے اور ایک گروہ کھا کر جاتا تھا تو دوسرا آتا تھا یہاں تک کہ سب لوگ کھا چکے، تو نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مجھ سے فرمایا کہ انس اس (برتن) کو اٹھا لے اور میں نے اس برتن کو اٹھایا تو معلوم نہ ہوتا تھا کہ جب میں نے رکھا تھا تب زیادہ تھا یا جب میں نے اٹھایا تب اس میں کھانا زیادہ تھا۔ اور بعض لوگ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے گھر میں بیٹھے باتیں کرنا شروع ہو گئے اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمبیٹھے تھے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی زوجہ مطہرہ (یعنی ام المؤمنین زینب رضی اللہ عنہا) دیوار کی طرف منہ پھیرے بیٹھی ہوئی تھیں۔ ان لوگوں کا بیٹھنا رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو ناگوار گزر رہا تھا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمباہر نکلے اور اپنی تمام ازواج مطہرات رضی اللہ عنہن کو سلام کرتے ہوئے لوٹ کر آئے۔ پھر جب ان لوگوں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دیکھا کہ ہم نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپر بوجھ بنے ہوئے ہیں، تو جلدی سے دروازے پر گئے اور سب کے سب باہر نکل گئے اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمآئے یہاں تک کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے پردہ ڈال دیا اور اندر داخل ہوئے اور میں حجرے میں بیٹھا ہوا تھا پھر تھوڑی دیر ہوئی ہو گی کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممیری طرف نکلے اور یہ آیتیں آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپر نازل ہوئی تھیں اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے باہر نکل کر لوگوں پر پڑھیں کہ”اے ایمان والو! جب تک تمہیں اجازت نہ دی جائے تم نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے گھروں میں نہ جایا کرو کھانے کے لئے ایسے وقت میں کہ اس کے پکنے کا انتظار کرتے رہو بلکہ جب بلایا جائے (تو) جاؤ اور جب (کھانا) کھا چکو تو نکل کھڑے ہو، وہیں باتوں میں مشغول نہ ہو جایا کرو۔ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) کو تمہاری اس بات سے تکلیف ہوتی ہے۔ وہ تو لحاظ کر جاتے ہیں اور اللہ تعالیٰ (بیان) حق میں کسی کا لحاظ نہیں کرتا ....“آخر آیت تک۔ (الاحزاب: 53)۔ (راوی حدیث) جعد نے کہا کہ سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ سب سے پہلے یہ آیتیں میں نے سنی ہیں اور مجھے پہنچی ہیں اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی ازواج مطہرات پردہ میں رہنے لگیں۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 824]
