English Translation
Narrated Abdullah ibn Maqil: I was sitting with Kab (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque. I asked about this verse: 'Then a ransom of fasting, or charity, or sacrifice' (ffidyatun min siyamin aw sadaqatin aw nusuk). So Kab (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This was revealed concerning me." (Then he related the whole story:) "I had an ailment in my head, and I was brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in such a state that lice were falling from my head onto my face. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'I did not think you were in such distress. Well! Do you have a goat (sheep)?' I said, 'No.' Then this verse was revealed: 'Then a ransom of fasting, or charity, or sacrifice'" (that is, on the occasion of Hajj in the state of ihram, do not shave your head until you have offered the sacrifice; but if anyone has an ailment in his head, he may shave his head, but along with it pay a ransom—either fast, or give charity, or offer a sacrifice). He (peace be upon him) said, "Either three days of fasting, or feeding six poor persons, or half a saa (that is, a little over a kilogram of food) of wheat and the like per person to be given to six poor persons." And Kab (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This verse, with regard to its revelation, is specific to me, but with regard to its application, it is general for all people."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا عبداللہ بن معقل کہتے ہیں کہمیں سیدنا کعب رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس مسجد میں بیٹھا تھا۔ میں اس آیت ((ففدیۃ من صیام او صدقۃ اونسک)) کے متعلق پوچھا تو سیدنا کعب رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ یہ میرے بارے میں اتری تھی۔ (پھر سارا قصہ بیان کیا کہ) میرے سر میں تکلیف تھی تو مجھے نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس اس حال میں لے جایا گیا کہ میرے سر سے میرے چہرے پر جوئیں گر رہی تھیں۔ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ مجھے یہ گمان تک نہ تھا کہ تجھے اتنی تکلیف ہو گی۔ اچھا! تمہارے پاس بکری ہے؟ میں نے کہا کہ نہیں۔ تو یہ آیت نازل ہوئی ((ففدیۃ من صیام او صدقۃ اونسک)) (یعنی حج کے موقعہ پر احرام کی حالت میں اپنے بال اس وقت تک نہ منڈواؤ جب تک قربانی نہ کر لو، البتہ کسی کو سر میں تکلیف ہو تو وہ سر منڈوا لے لیکن اس کے ساتھ کفارہ ادا کرے یا تو روزے رکھے یا صدقہ یا قربانی کرے)۔ (آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے) فرمایا کہ یا تو تین روزے رکھنے ہوں گے یا چھ مساکین کو کھانا کھلانا ہو گا، یا نصف صاع (یعنی سوا کلو کھانا) گندم وغیرہ فی کس چھ مساکین کو دینی ہو گی۔ اور (کعب رضی اللہ عنہ نے) فرمایا کہ یہ آیت نزول کے لحاظ سے تو میرے ساتھ خاص ہے لیکن عمل کے لحاظ سے تمام لوگوں کے لئے عام ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 688]
