English Translation
Narrated Abu Said al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) made itikaf during the middle ten days of Ramadan, in which he (peace be upon him) sought Laylat al-Qadr before he was informed of it. When the middle ten days had passed, he (peace be upon him) ordered the tent to be taken down, and it was taken down. Then it was made known to him that it is in the last ten days, so he (peace be upon him) ordered the tent to be pitched, and it was pitched again. Then he (peace be upon him) came out to the Companions and said, "O people! I was given knowledge of Laylat al-Qadr, and I had come out to inform you of it, when two men came quarreling, with whom Satan was present, and so (its exact determination) was made me forget. Now seek it in the last ten days of Ramadan; seek it in the ninth, seventh, and fifth (nights of the last ten)." The narrator said: I said to Abu Said al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), "You know more than us about this counting." He said, "Yes! We are more entitled to it than you." The narrator said: I said, "Which nights are meant by the ninth, seventh, and fifth?" He said, "When the twenty-first night has passed, that after which the twenty-second night comes, this is what is meant by the ninth. And when the twenty-third has passed, that which comes after it, this is what is meant by the seventh. And when the twenty-fifth night has passed, that which comes after it, this is what is meant by the fifth."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے، بیان کرتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے رمضان کے درمیانی عشرہ میں اعتکاف کیا، جس میں آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلملیلۃالقدر کا عالم دیئے جانے سے قبل اسے ڈھونڈھتے تھے۔ جب درمیانی عشرہ گزر گیا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے خیمہ کھولنے کا حکم دیا تو وہ کھول دیا گیا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو معلوم کروا دیا گیا کہ یہ آخری عشرہ میں ہے تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے خیمہ لگانے کا حکم کیا تو دوبارہ لگا دیا گیا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمصحابہ کے پاس آئے تو فرمایا: اے لوگو! مجھے لیلۃالقدر کا علم دے دیا گیا تھا اور میں تمہیں بتانے کے لئے نکلا تھا کہ دو آدمی لڑتے ہوئے آئے جن کے ساتھ شیطان بھی تھا، تو (اس کی تعیین) مجھے بھلا دی گئی۔ اب تم اسے رمضان کے آخری عشرہ میں تلاش کرو (آخری عشرے کی) نویں، ساتویں اور پانچویں رات میں تلاش کرو۔ راوی کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے سیدنا ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا کہ اس عدد کے بارے میں تم ہم سے زیادہ علم رکھتے ہو تو انہوں نے کہا کہ ہاں! ہم اس کے تم سے زیادہ حقدار ہیں۔ راوی کہتے ہیں، میں نے کہا کہ نویں، ساتویں اور پانچویں سے کون سی راتیں مراد ہیں؟ (انہوں نے) کہا کہ جب اکیسویں رات گزر جائے کہ جس کے بعد بائیسویں رات آتی ہے، یہی نویں سے مراد ہے۔ اور جب تئیسویں گزر جائے تو اس کے بعد والی آتی ہے، یہی ساتویں سے مراد ہے اور جب پچیسویں رات گزر جائے تو جو اس کے بعد والی ہے، یہی مراد ہے پانچویں سے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 637]
