English Translation
Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade continuous fasting (wisal, joining one day's fast to the next without breaking). A man said: O Messenger of Allah, but you practise wisal. He (peace be upon him) said: "Who among you is like me? I pass the night in such a state that my Lord feeds me and gives me to drink." Yet the people did not desist from wisal (this was the perfect love and obedience of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and they took this prohibition as an act of compassion). So he (peace be upon him) fasted continuously with them one day, then a second day; then they saw the crescent, so he (peace be upon him) said: "Had the crescent not appeared, I would have continued the wisal even longer." (And this saying of his (peace be upon him) was by way of rebuke and reproof, since they would not desist from wisal.)
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے وصال سے منع کیا تو ایک شخص نے عرض کیا کہ اے اللہ کے رسولصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم! آپ تو وصال کر لیتے ہیں۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم میں سے کون میرے برابر ہے؟ میں تو رات کو رہتا ہوں کہ مجھے میرا پروردگار کھلاتا ہے اور پلاتا ہے۔ پھر بھی لوگ وصال سے باز نہ آئے، (یہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے اصحاب کی کمال محبت اور اطاعت تھی اور انہوں نے اس نہی کو براہ شفقت سمجھا) تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان کے ساتھ ایک روز وصال کیا، پھر دوسرے روز (بھی وصال کیا) پھر انہوں نے چاند دیکھ لیا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اگر چاند نہ ہوتا تو میں زیادہ وصال کرتا (اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکا یہ فرمانا زجر و توبیخ کی راہ سے تھا، جب وہ لوگ وصال سے باز نہ رہے)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 595]
