English Translation
Ubaydullah bin Abdullah said: I came to the Mother of the Believers, Aishah as-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her), and said, "Tell me about the events of the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)." She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) fell ill and asked, "Have the people prayed?" We said, "No, they are waiting for you." He said, "Put water for us in a vessel." We put the water, and he performed a bath, then wished to walk, but he fainted. When he came to, he again asked, "Have the people prayed?" We said, "No, O Messenger of Allah, they are waiting for you." He said, "Put water for us in a basin." So we complied with his command, and he performed a bath, then prepared to walk, but he fainted again. After regaining consciousness he again asked, "Have the people prayed?" We said, "No, O Messenger of Allah, all the people are waiting for you." Meanwhile the people were waiting in the mosque for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to come for the Isha prayer. Finally the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent word by a man to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the prayer. So the man came to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "The Mercy to the Worlds (peace be upon him) has commanded you to lead the people in prayer." Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was very soft-hearted (he would weep readily), so he said to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), "O Umar, you lead the prayer." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "No, you are more entitled to the imamate, and you have been commanded to lead the prayer." So Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) led the prayer for several days. During this time, one day, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) felt somewhat better and, leaning on two men, went to the mosque for the Zuhr prayer. One of these two men was Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) (who was his paternal uncle). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) reached the mosque when Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading the prayer as imam. When he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he wished to step back, but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) signaled him not to step back, and said to those with him, "Seat me beside Abu Bakr." So the two of them seated him beside Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) began to pray while seated, and Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) followed the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) while standing, so that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was the imam and Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was the follower, and all the Companions, as before, were following Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) in this obligatory Zuhr prayer. Ubaydullah bin Abdullah said: I went to Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said, "I will relate to you the hadith which the Mother of the Believers, Aishah as-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her), told me." And at his request I related the entire hadith to him. After hearing it he said, "This entire hadith is completely correct." Then he asked, "Did the Mother of the Believers, Aishah as-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her), not tell you the name of the other man who was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)?" I said, "No." He said, "The other man was Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)." [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 319]

عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا کہ آپ مجھے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی بیماری کے واقعات بتائیے۔ انہوں نے فرمایا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمبیمار ہوئے تو پوچھا کہ کیا لوگ نماز پڑھ چکے؟ ہم نے کہا کہ نہیں، بلکہ وہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے منتظر ہیں۔ ارشاد فرمایا کہ ہمارے لئے برتن میں پانی رکھو۔ ہم نے پانی رکھا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے غسل فرمایا، اس کے بعد چلنا چاہا لیکن آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو غش آ گیا۔ اور جب افاقہ ہوا تو پھر پوچھا کہ کیا لوگ نماز پڑھ چکے؟ ہم نے کہا کہ نہیں یا رسول اللہ! بلکہ وہ آپ کے منتظر ہیں۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ ہمارے لئے طشت (تھال) میں پانی رکھو۔ چنانچہ ہم نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے حکم کی تعمیل کی اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے غسل کیا پھر آپ چلنے کے لئے تیار ہوئے لیکن آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دوبارہ غش آ گیا۔ اور پھر ہوش میں آنے کے بعد پوچھا کہ کیا لوگ نماز پڑھ چکے؟ ہم نے عرض کیا کہ نہیں یا رسول اللہ! وہ سب لوگ آپ کا انتظار کر رہے ہیں۔ اور ادھر لوگوں کی حالت یہ تھی کہ وہ سب نماز عشاء کے لئے رسالت مآبصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی تشریف آوری کے مسجد میں منتظر تھے۔ آخر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ایک آدمی کے ہاتھ سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کو کہلا بھیجا کہ آپ نماز پڑھائیں۔ چنانچہ اس آدمی نے سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہو کر کہا کہ رحمت دو عالمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے حکم دیا ہے کہ آپ لوگوں کو نماز پڑھائیں۔ سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ نہایت نرم دل تھے (وہ جلد رونے لگتے تھے) اس لئے انہوں نے سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا کہ اے عمر! تم نماز پڑھا دو۔ جس پر سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ نہیں، آپ ہی امامت کے زیادہ مستحق ہیں اور آپ ہی کو نماز پڑھانے کے لئے حکم دیا گیا ہے۔ چنانچہ سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ نے کئی دن تک نماز پڑھائی۔ اسی دوران ایک دن رسول اکرمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی طبیعت ذرا ہلکی ہوئی تو آپ دو آدمیوں کا سہارا لے کر نماز ظہر کے لئے مسجد میں تشریف لے گئے۔ ان دو آدمیوں میں سے ایک سیدنا عباس رضی اللہ عنہ تھے (جو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے چچا تھے) غرضیکہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممسجد میں اس وقت پہنچے جب سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ بحیثیت امام نماز پڑھا رہے تھے۔ انہوں نے جب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دیکھا تو پیچھے ہٹنا چاہا لیکن آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اشارہ سے فرمایا کہ پیچھے نہ ہٹو اور اپنے ساتھ والوں سے کہا کہ مجھے ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کے برابر میں بٹھا دو۔ چنانچہ ان دونوں نے آپ کو سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کے برابر بٹھا دیا۔ رسالت مآبصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمبیٹھے بیٹھے نماز پڑھنے لگے اور سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ ویسے ہی کھڑے کھڑے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی نماز میں پیروی کرنے لگے گویا رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمامام تھے اور سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ مقتدی اور تمام صحابہ کرام حسب سابق اس فرض نماز ظہر میں سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کی پیروی کر رہے تھے۔ عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ کا بیان ہے کہ میں نے سیدنا عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کے پاس جا کر کہا کہ میں آپ کو وہ حدیث سناتا ہوں جو ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے مجھے سنائی ہے اور ان کی طلب پہ میں نے پوری حدیث ان سے کہہ سنائی جسے سننے کے بعد انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ پوری حدیث بالکل صحیح ہے۔ پھر پوچھا کہ دوسرے شخص جو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ تھے کیا ان کا نام ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے نہیں بتایا؟ میں نے جواب دیا کہ جی نہیں تو انہوں نے کہا کہ دوسرے آدمی سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 319]
