English Translation
Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The likeness of the believer who reads the Qur'an is that of the citron — its fragrance is fine and its taste is good. The likeness of the believer who does not read the Qur'an is that of the date — it has no fragrance, but its taste is sweet. The likeness of the hypocrite who reads the Qur'an is that of a flower — its fragrance is fine but its taste is bitter. And the likeness of the hypocrite who does not read the Qur'an is that of the colocynth (bitter apple) — it has no fragrance and its taste is bitter."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: قرآن پڑھنے والے مومن کی مثال ترنج کی سی ہے کہ اس کی خوشبو بھی عمدہ ہے اور اس کا مزا بھی اچھا ہے اور قرآن نہ پڑھنے والے مومن کی مثال کھجور کی سی ہے کہ اس میں بو نہیں مگر مزا میٹھا ہے اور قرآن پڑھنے والے منافق کی مثال پھول کے مانند ہے کہ اس کی بو اچھی ہے لیکن اس کا مزا کڑوا ہے۔ اور قرآن نہ پڑھنے والے منافق کی مثال اندرائن (کوڑ تنبہ) کی سی ہے کہ اس میں خوشبو بھی نہیں اور مزا بھی کڑوا ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2104]
