English Translation

It is narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), among a group of people, to Ibn Sayyad, until they found him playing with the boys near the fort of Banu Maghalah. In those days Ibn Sayyad was near puberty. He was not aware until the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) struck his back with his hand. Then he (peace be upon him) asked him, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" Ibn Sayyad looked at him (peace be upon him) and said, "I bear witness that you are the Messenger of the unlettered" (ummi means the unlettered and uneducated). Then Ibn Sayyad said to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) gave no answer to this (and did not ask him to become a Muslim, for he, peace be upon him, had given up hope of his becoming Muslim; and in one narration, with an unpointed sad, that is, he, peace be upon him, kicked him), and said, "I believe in Allah and in His messengers." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked him, "What do you see?" He said, "Sometimes a truthful one comes to me and sometimes a lying one." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Your affair has become confused (that is, mixed, both truth and falsehood)." Then he (peace be upon him) said, "I have concealed something in my mind to ask you." Ibn Sayyad said, "It is al-dukh (smoke)." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Be lowly! You cannot rise above your measure." 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Leave him to me; I will strike his neck." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "If he is that one (that is, the Dajjal), you will not be able to kill him; and if he is not that one (the Dajjal), then killing him is not good for you." Salim ibn 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) say that afterward the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the grove where Ibn Sayyad lived. When he (peace be upon him) entered the grove, he began to hide behind the trunks of the date palms so that he (peace be upon him) might catch Ibn Sayyad unawares and hear some of his words before Ibn Sayyad saw him (peace be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saw Ibn Sayyad lying on a bed, mumbling some unintelligible words. He (peace be upon him) was hiding among the date palms when Ibn Sayyad's mother saw him (peace be upon him) and called out to him, "O Saf! (and Saf was Ibn Sayyad's name) This is Muhammad (peace be upon him) who has arrived." Hearing this, Ibn Sayyad rose up. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "If she had left him as he was, his matter would have become clear (for we would have heard his words and known whether he is a soothsayer or a magician)." Salim said: 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up among the people and praised Allah the Exalted as He deserves, then mentioned the Dajjal and said, "I warn you of him, and there is no prophet who has passed but that he warned his people of the Dajjal -- even Noah (peace be upon him) (whose time was long ago) warned his people of him. But I tell you something which no prophet has told his people: know that he will be one-eyed, whereas your Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, is not one-eyed." (Refuge is sought with Allah! One-eyedness is a defect, and Allah the Exalted is free of every defect.) Ibn Shihab said: 'Umar ibn Thabit al-Ansari related to me, and to him some of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) related, that on the day the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) warned the people of the Dajjal, he also said, "Between his two eyes will be written 'disbeliever' (that is, actually the letters k-f-r will be written, or disbelief and wickedness will be evident from his face), which every person who detests his deeds will read, or which every believer will read." Urdu Translation

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہسیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ چند لوگوں میں ابن صیاد کے پاس گئے حتیٰ کہ اسے بنی مغالہ کے قلعے کے پاس لڑکوں کے ساتھ کھیلتے ہوئے دیکھا ان دنوں ابن صیاد جوانی کے قریب تھا۔ اس کو خبر نہ ہوئی یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کی پیٹھ پر اپنا ہاتھ مارا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس سے پوچھا کہ کیا تو اس بات کی گواہی دیتا ہے کہ میں اللہ تعالیٰ کا رسول ہوں؟ ابن صیاد نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی طرف دیکھا اور کہا کہ میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ تم امییّن کے رسول ہو (امی کہتے ہیں ان پڑھ اور بے تعلیم کو)۔ پھر ابن صیاد نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے کہا کہ تم اس بات کی گواہی دیتے ہو کہ میں اللہ تعالیٰ کا رسول ہوں؟ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس بات کا کچھ جواب نہ دیا؟ (اور اس سے مسلمان ہونے کی درخواست نہ کی کیونکہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماس کے مسلمان ہونے سے مایوس ہو گئے اور ایک روایت میں صاد مہملہ سے یعنی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کو لات سے مارا) اور فرمایا کہ میں اللہ پر اور اس کے رسولوں پر ایمان لایا۔ پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس سے پوچھا کہ تجھے کیا دکھائی دیتا ہے؟ وہ بولا کہ میرے پاس کبھی سچا آتا ہے اور کبھی جھوٹا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تیرا کام گڑبڑ ہو گیا (یعنی مخلوط حق و باطل دونوں سے) پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ میں نے تجھ سے پوچھنے کے لئے ایک بات دل میں چھپائی ہے۔ ابن صیاد نے کہا کہ وہ دخ (دھواں) ہے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ ذلیل ہو، تو اپنی قدر سے کہاں بڑھ سکتا ہے؟ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! مجھے چھوڑئیے میں اس کی گردن مارتا ہوں۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اگر یہ وہی (یعنی دجال) ہے تو تو اس کو مار نہ سکے گا اور اگر یہ وہ (دجال) نہیں ہے تو تجھے اس کا مارنا بہتر نہیں ہے۔ سیدنا سالم بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں نے سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا کہ اس کے بعد رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماور سیدنا ابن ابی بن کعب رضی اللہ عنہ اس باغ میں گئے جہاں ابن صیاد رہتا تھا۔ جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمباغ میں گھسے تو کھجور کے درختوں کی آڑ میں چھپنے لگے تاکہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمابن صیاد کو دھوکہ دے کر اور اس کی کچھ باتیں سن سکیں۔ اس سے پہلے کہ ابن صیاد آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دیکھے، رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ابن صیاد کو دیکھا کہ وہ ایک بچھونے پر لیٹا ہوا تھا اور کچھ نافہم باتیں گنگنا رہا تھا۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکھجور کے درختوں میں چھپ رہے تھے کہ اس کی ماں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دیکھ کر اسے پکارا کہ اے صاف! (اور صاف ابن صیاد کا نام تھا)۔ یہ محمدصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمآن پہنچے۔ یہ سنتے ہی ابن صیاد اٹھ کھڑا ہوا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اگر وہ اس کو ایسا ہی رہنے دیتی تو اس کا معاملہ واضح ہو جاتا (تو ہم اس کی باتیں سنتے تو معلوم کرتے کہ وہ کاہن ہے یا ساحر)۔ سالم نے کہا کہ سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلملوگوں کے درمیان کھڑے ہوئے اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی تعریف کی جیسے اس کو لائق ہے، پھر دجال کا ذکر کیا اور فرمایا کہ میں تمہیں اس سے ڈراتا ہوں اور کوئی نبی ایسا نہیں گزرا جس نے اپنی قوم کو دجال سے نہ ڈرایا ہو، یہاں تک کہ نوح علیہ السلام نے بھی (جن کا دور بہت پہلے تھا) اپنی قوم کو اس سے ڈرایا۔ لیکن میں تم کو ایسی بات بتلائے دیتا ہوں جو کسی نبی نے اپنی قوم کو نہیں بتلائی، تم جان لو کہ وہ کانا ہو گا اور تمہارا اللہ برکت والا بلند، کانا نہیں ہے۔ (معاذاللہ کاناپن ایک عیب ہے اور اللہ تعالیٰ ہر ایک عیب سے پاک ہے) ابن شہاب نے کہا کہ مجھ سے عمر بن ثابت انصاری نے بیان کیا اور ان سے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے بعض اصحاب نے بیان کیا کہ جس روز رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے لوگوں کو دجال سے ڈرایا تھا، یہ بھی فرمایا کہ اس کی دونوں آنکھوں کے درمیان میں کافر لکھا ہو گا (یعنی حقیقتاً کا۔ ف۔ ر۔ یہ حروف لکھے ہوں گے یا اس کے چہرے سے کفر اور شرارت نمایاں ہو گی) جس کو ہر وہ شخص پڑھ لے گا جو اس کے کاموں کو برا جانے گا یا اس کو ہر ایک مومن پڑھ لے گا اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم یہ جان رکھو کہ تم میں سے کوئی بھی اپنے رب کو مرنے سے پہلے ہرگز نہیں دیکھ سکتا۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2044]سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہسیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ چند لوگوں میں ابن صیاد کے پاس گئے حتیٰ کہ اسے بنی مغالہ کے قلعے کے پاس لڑکوں کے ساتھ کھیلتے ہوئے دیکھا ان دنوں ابن صیاد جوانی کے قریب تھا۔ اس کو خبر نہ ہوئی یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کی پیٹھ پر اپنا ہاتھ مارا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس سے پوچھا کہ کیا تو اس بات کی گواہی دیتا ہے کہ میں اللہ تعالیٰ کا رسول ہوں؟ ابن صیاد نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی طرف دیکھا اور کہا کہ میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ تم امییّن کے رسول ہو (امی کہتے ہیں ان پڑھ اور بے تعلیم کو)۔ پھر ابن صیاد نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے کہا کہ تم اس بات کی گواہی دیتے ہو کہ میں اللہ تعالیٰ کا رسول ہوں؟ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس بات کا کچھ جواب نہ دیا؟ (اور اس سے مسلمان ہونے کی درخواست نہ کی کیونکہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماس کے مسلمان ہونے سے مایوس ہو گئے اور ایک روایت میں صاد مہملہ سے یعنی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کو لات سے مارا) اور فرمایا کہ میں اللہ پر اور اس کے رسولوں پر ایمان لایا۔ پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس سے پوچھا کہ تجھے کیا دکھائی دیتا ہے؟ وہ بولا کہ میرے پاس کبھی سچا آتا ہے اور کبھی جھوٹا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تیرا کام گڑبڑ ہو گیا (یعنی مخلوط حق و باطل دونوں سے) پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ میں نے تجھ سے پوچھنے کے لئے ایک بات دل میں چھپائی ہے۔ ابن صیاد نے کہا کہ وہ دخ (دھواں) ہے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ ذلیل ہو، تو اپنی قدر سے کہاں بڑھ سکتا ہے؟ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! مجھے چھوڑئیے میں اس کی گردن مارتا ہوں۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اگر یہ وہی (یعنی دجال) ہے تو تو اس کو مار نہ سکے گا اور اگر یہ وہ (دجال) نہیں ہے تو تجھے اس کا مارنا بہتر نہیں ہے۔ سیدنا سالم بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں نے سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا کہ اس کے بعد رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماور سیدنا ابن ابی بن کعب رضی اللہ عنہ اس باغ میں گئے جہاں ابن صیاد رہتا تھا۔ جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمباغ میں گھسے تو کھجور کے درختوں کی آڑ میں چھپنے لگے تاکہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمابن صیاد کو دھوکہ دے کر اور اس کی کچھ باتیں سن سکیں۔ اس سے پہلے کہ ابن صیاد آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دیکھے، رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ابن صیاد کو دیکھا کہ وہ ایک بچھونے پر لیٹا ہوا تھا اور کچھ نافہم باتیں گنگنا رہا تھا۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکھجور کے درختوں میں چھپ رہے تھے کہ اس کی ماں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دیکھ کر اسے پکارا کہ اے صاف! (اور صاف ابن صیاد کا نام تھا)۔ یہ محمدصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمآن پہنچے۔ یہ سنتے ہی ابن صیاد اٹھ کھڑا ہوا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اگر وہ اس کو ایسا ہی رہنے دیتی تو اس کا معاملہ واضح ہو جاتا (تو ہم اس کی باتیں سنتے تو معلوم کرتے کہ وہ کاہن ہے یا ساحر)۔ سالم نے کہا کہ سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلملوگوں کے درمیان کھڑے ہوئے اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی تعریف کی جیسے اس کو لائق ہے، پھر دجال کا ذکر کیا اور فرمایا کہ میں تمہیں اس سے ڈراتا ہوں اور کوئی نبی ایسا نہیں گزرا جس نے اپنی قوم کو دجال سے نہ ڈرایا ہو، یہاں تک کہ نوح علیہ السلام نے بھی (جن کا دور بہت پہلے تھا) اپنی قوم کو اس سے ڈرایا۔ لیکن میں تم کو ایسی بات بتلائے دیتا ہوں جو کسی نبی نے اپنی قوم کو نہیں بتلائی، تم جان لو کہ وہ کانا ہو گا اور تمہارا اللہ برکت والا بلند، کانا نہیں ہے۔ (معاذاللہ کاناپن ایک عیب ہے اور اللہ تعالیٰ ہر ایک عیب سے پاک ہے) ابن شہاب نے کہا کہ مجھ سے عمر بن ثابت انصاری نے بیان کیا اور ان سے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے بعض اصحاب نے بیان کیا کہ جس روز رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے لوگوں کو دجال سے ڈرایا تھا، یہ بھی فرمایا کہ اس کی دونوں آنکھوں کے درمیان میں کافر لکھا ہو گا (یعنی حقیقتاً کا۔ ف۔ ر۔ یہ حروف لکھے ہوں گے یا اس کے چہرے سے کفر اور شرارت نمایاں ہو گی) جس کو ہر وہ شخص پڑھ لے گا جو اس کے کاموں کو برا جانے گا یا اس کو ہر ایک مومن پڑھ لے گا اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم یہ جان رکھو کہ تم میں سے کوئی بھی اپنے رب کو مرنے سے پہلے ہرگز نہیں دیکھ سکتا۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2044]
