English Translation
Narrated al-Nawwas ibn Sam'an (may Allah be pleased with him): I stayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in Medina for a year (in the manner of one who comes to visit him from another land and intends to return to his own land), and I did not migrate for this reason (that is, I did not suspend my intention of returning to my land), because whenever one of us had migrated, he would not ask the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) anything (unlike the travelers, who were permitted to ask). I asked him (peace be upon him) about goodness and evil, and he (peace be upon him) said, "Goodness and righteousness are good character, and sin is that which wavers in your heart and which you would dislike people to become aware of."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا نواس بن سمعان رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس مدینہ میں ایک سال تک رہا (اس طرح جیسے کوئی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی ملاقات کے لئے دوسرے ملک سے آتا ہے اور اپنے ملک میں پھر لوٹ جانے کا ارادہ رکھتا ہے) اور میں نے اس وجہ سے ہجرت نہ کی (یعنی اپنے ملک میں جانے کا ارادہ موقوف نہ کیا) کہ جب کوئی ہم میں سے ہجرت کر لیتا تھا تو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے کچھ نہ پوچھتا تھا (برخلاف مسافروں کے کہ ان کو پوچھنے کی اجازت تھی)۔ میں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے بھلائی اور برائی کے بارے میں پوچھا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ بھلائی اور نیکی حسن خلق ہے اور گناہ وہ ہے جو دل میں کھٹکے اور لوگوں کو اس کی خبر ہونا تجھے برا لگے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1794]
