English Translation
Narrated Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): Among the Jews, when a woman was menstruating, they would not eat with her, nor stay in the house with her. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked him about this, so Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "They ask you about menstruation. Say: It is a harm, so keep away from women during menstruation" (the verse). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Do everything except intercourse." This news reached the Jews, and they said: "This man (that is, Muhammad, peace be upon him) wants to oppose us in every matter." Hearing this, Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Abbad bin Bishr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! The Jews say such-and-such, so why should we not have intercourse with menstruating women? (that is, since the Jews consider our opposition evil and are irritated by it, we should oppose them thoroughly)." On hearing this, the color of the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) changed. (Their saying this — why should we not have intercourse — displeased the Prophet, peace be upon him, because it was contrary to the Qur'an.) We thought that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had become angry with these two men. They got up and went out, and at that moment someone sent milk to the Prophet (peace be upon him) as a gift, so he sent for the two of them again and gave them milk to drink. Then they realized that his anger was not upon them.
Urdu Translation
سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہیہود میں جب کوئی عورت حائضہ ہوتی، تو اس کو نہ اپنے ساتھ کھلاتے، نہ گھر میں اس کے ساتھ رہتے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے اصحاب نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے اس کے متعلق پوچھا تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت اتاری”پوچھتے ہیں تم سے حیض کے بارے میں، تم کہہ دو کہ حیض پلیدی ہے، تو جدا رہو عورتوں سے حیض کی حالت میں“(الآیۃ) رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ سب کام کرو سوا جماع کے۔ یہ خبر یہود کو پہنچی، تو انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ شخص (یعنی محمدصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) چاہتا ہے کہ ہر بات میں ہمارے خلاف کرے یہ سن کر سیدنا اسید بن حضیر رضی اللہ عنہ اور سیدنا عباد بن بشر رضی اللہ عنہ آئے اور عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! یہود ایسا ایسا کہتے ہیں تو ہم حائضہ عورتوں سے جماع کیوں نہ کریں (یعنی جب یہود ہماری مخالفت کو برا جانتے ہیں اور اس سے جلتے ہیں تو ہمیں بھی اچھی طرح خلاف کرنا چاہئے) یہ سنتے ہی رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے چہرے کا رنگ بدل گیا۔ (ان کے یہ کہنے سے ہم جماع کیوں نہ کریں آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو برا معلوم ہوا اس لئے کہ خلاف قرآن بات ہے) ہم یہ سمجھے کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو ان دونوں شخصوں پر غصہ آیا ہے۔ وہ اٹھ کر باہر نکلے، اتنے میں کسی نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو دودھ تحفہ کے طور پر بھیجا، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان دونوں کو پھر بلا بھیجا اور دودھ پلایا تب ان کو معلوم ہوا کہ آپ کا غصہ ان پر نہ تھا۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 171]
