English Translation
Al-Bara ibn Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was prevented (from going) near the House of Allah, and the people of Mecca made peace with him (peace be upon him) on the condition that (in the following year) he would come and stay in Mecca for three days, bring the weapons in their sheaths, and take none of the people of Mecca away with him, and not prevent any of those with him who (accepting the company of the polytheists) chose to stay behind—he (peace be upon him) said to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "Very well, write this condition: 'In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), has decided.'" The polytheists said, "If we knew that you were the Messenger of Allah the Exalted, we would obey you or give you allegiance; rather write: 'Muhammad ibn Abdullah has decided.'" He (peace be upon him) told Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to erase the words "the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)," but he said, "By Allah, I will not erase it." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Very well, show me the place of those words." Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) showed it, so he (peace be upon him) erased it and wrote "ibn Abdullah." (When the following year came, he (peace be upon him) arrived.) Then he stayed three days in Mecca the Honored. When the third day came, the polytheists said to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "This is the last day of your companion's condition; now tell him to leave." So he (peace be upon him) said, "Very well," and he (peace be upon him) departed.
Urdu Translation
سیدنا براء بن عازب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہجب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمبیت اللہ کے قریب (وہاں جانے سے) روکے گئے اور مکہ والوں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے اس شرط پر صلح کی کہ (آئندہ سال) آئیں اور تین دن تک مکہ میں رہیں اور ہتھیاروں کو غلاف میں رکھ کر لائیں اور کسی مکہ والے کو اپنے ساتھ نہ لے جائیں اور ان کے ساتھ والوں میں سے جو (مشرکوں کا ساتھ قبول کر کے) رہ جائے تو اس کو منع نہ کریں۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے فرمایا کہ اچھا اس شرط کو لکھو کہ بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم یہ وہ ہے جس پر محمد رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فیصلہ کیا، تو مشرک بولے کہ اگر ہم جانتے کہ آپ اللہ تعالیٰ کے رسول ہیں، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی اطاعت ہی کر لیتے یا آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے بیعت کرتے بلکہ یہ لکھئے کہ محمد بن عبداللہ نے فیصلہ کیا۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکا لفظ مٹانے کے لئے کہا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ اللہ کی قسم میں تو نہ مٹاؤں گا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اچھا مجھے اس لفظ کی جگہ بتاؤ۔ سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے بتا دی، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کو مٹا دیا اور ابن عبداللہ لکھ دیا (جب دوسرا سال ہوا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمتشریف لائے)۔ پھر تین روز تک مکہ معظمہ میں رہے۔ جب تیسرا دن ہوا، تو مشرکوں نے سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا کہ یہ تمہارے صاحب کی شرط کا آخری دن ہے اب ان سے جانے کو کہو، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اچھا اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنکل آئے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1178]
