English Translation

Abu Ishaq said: I heard al-Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) say: Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the house of my father (Azib) and bought a camel-saddle from him and said, "Tell your son to carry this saddle with me to my house." My father said to me, "Carry the saddle." I carried it, and my father also went out with Abu Bakr to receive its price. My father said, "O Abu Bakr! What did you do on the night you set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) (that is, when you traveled from Makkah toward Madinah with the intention of migration)?" Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "We traveled all night until it became day, and it was exactly midday, when no traveler remained on the road. Before us appeared a great rock whose shade was upon the ground, where the sun had not reached. We halted by it. I went to the rock and leveled the ground with my hand so that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) could rest in its shade; then I spread a cloak there and afterward said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Sleep, and I will watch all around you (peace be upon him) for the enemy's tracks (in case anyone has come searching for us).' Then I saw a shepherd of goats who was coming with his goats toward that same rock, with the same intention with which we had come (that is, to stay and rest in its shade). I met him and asked, 'O boy, whose slave are you?' He said, 'I am the slave of a man from among the people of Madinah (the city, that is, Makkah).' I said, 'Do your goats give milk?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Will you give us milk?' He said, 'Yes.' Then he brought a goat, and I said, 'Clean this udder of hair, dust, and grime, so that these things do not fall into the milk.'" (The narrator said:) I saw al-Bara bin Azib striking one hand upon the other and dusting them. "Anyway, the boy milked a little milk into a wooden bowl, and with me was a bucket in which was water for the drinking and ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, 'Then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and I disliked waking him from sleep, but I found that he (peace be upon him) had awakened by himself. I poured water on the milk until it became cool, then I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Drink this milk." He (peace be upon him) drank until I was pleased. Then he (peace be upon him) said, "Has the time to move on not come?" I said, "It has come." Then we set off after the sun had declined, and Suraqah bin Malik pursued us (and at that time he was a disbeliever), and we were on hard ground. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! The disbelievers have caught up with us." He (peace be upon him) said, "Do not grieve; Allah the Exalted is with us." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) supplicated against Suraqah, and his horse sank into the ground up to its belly (although the ground there was hard). He said, "I know that you two have supplicated against me. Now I swear by Allah the Exalted that I will turn back whoever comes in search of you two; pray for me (that Allah the Exalted may free me from this torment)." He (peace be upon him) supplicated to Allah the Exalted, and it was released and he turned back. Whichever disbeliever he met, he would say, "I have searched everywhere over there," so whoever he met, Suraqah would turn him back.' Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, 'Suraqah fulfilled his word.'" Urdu Translation

ابواسحاق کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے سیدنا براء بن عازب رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا وہ کہتے تھے کہ سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ میرے باپ (عازب) کے مکان پر آئے اور ان سے ایک کجاوہ خریدا اور بولے کہ تم اپنے بیٹے سے کہو کہ یہ کجاوہ اٹھا کر میرے ساتھ میرے مکان تک لے چلے۔ میرے والد نے مجھ سے کہا کہ کجاوہ اٹھا لے۔ میں نے اٹھا لیا اور میرے والد بھی سیدنا ابوبکر کے ساتھ اس کی قیمت لینے کو نکلے میرے باپ نے کہا کہ اے ابوبکر! تم نے اس رات کو کیا کیا جس رات رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ باہر نکلے (یعنی مکہ سے مدینہ کی طرف ہجرت کی غرض سے چلے) سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ ہم ساری رات چلتے رہے یہاں تک کہ دن ہو گیا اور ٹھیک دوپہر کا وقت ہو گیا کہ راہ میں کوئی چلنے والا نہ رہا۔ ہمیں سامنے ایک بڑی چٹان دکھائی دی جس کا سایہ زمین پر تھا اور وہاں دھوپ نہ آئی تھی، ہم اس کے پاس اترے۔ میں پتھر کے پاس گیا اور اپنے ہاتھ سے جگہ برابر کی تاکہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماس کے سایہ میں آرام فرمائیں، پھر میں نے وہاں کملی (چادر) بچھائی اور اس کے بعد عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! آپ سو جائیے، میں آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے گرد سب طرف دشمن کا کھوج لیتا ہوں (کہ کوئی ہماری تلاش میں تو نہیں آیا)۔ پھر میں نے بکریوں کا ایک چرواہا دیکھا جو اپنی بکریاں لئے ہوئے اسی پتھر کی طرف اس ارادے سے جس ارادے سے ہم آئے تھے (یعنی اس کے سایہ میں ٹھہرنا اور آرام کرنا) آ رہا تھا۔ میں اس سے ملا اور پوچھا کہ اے لڑکے تو کس کا غلام ہے؟ وہ بولا کہ میں مدینہ (شہر یعنی مکہ) والوں میں سے ایک شخص کا غلام ہوں۔ میں نے کہا کہ تیری بکریاں دودھ ولی ہیں؟ وہ بولا ہاں۔ میں نے کہا کہ تو ہمیں دودھ دے گا؟ وہ بولا ہاں۔ پھر وہ ایک بکری کو لایا تو میں نے کہا کہ اس تھن بالوں، مٹی اور گرد و غبار سے صاف کر لے تاکہ یہ چیزیں دودھ میں نہ پڑیں۔ (راوی نے کہا کہ) میں نے براء بن عازب کو دیکھا کہ وہ ایک ہاتھ دوسرے ہاتھ پر مارتے اور جھاڑتے تھے۔ خیر اس لڑکے نے لکڑی کے ایک پیالہ میں تھوڑا سا دودھ دھوہا اور میرے ساتھ ایک ڈول تھا، جس میں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پینے اور وضو کے لئے پانی تھا۔ سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ پھر میں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آیا اور مجھے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو نیند سے جگانا برا معلوم ہوا، لیکن میں نے دیکھا کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمخودبخود جاگ اٹھے تھے۔ میں نے دودھ پر پانی ڈالا یہاں تک کہ وہ ٹھنڈا ہو گیا، پھر میں نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! یہ دودھ پیجئے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے پیا یہاں تک کہ میں خوش ہو گیا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ کیا کوچ کا وقت نہیں آیا؟ میں نے کہا کہ آ گیا۔ پھر ہم زوال آفتاب کے بعد چلے اور سراقہ بن مالک نے ہمارا پیچھا کیا (اور وہ اس وقت کافر تھا) اور ہم سخت زمین پر تھے۔ کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ!
