English Translation
Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever dies without having fought or having intended to fight (in jihad) has died with a trait of hypocrisy." Abdullah bin Sahm (the narrator of the hadith) says that Abdullah bin al-Mubarak said, "We consider this hadith to pertain to the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)." (This is Ibn al-Mubarak's view. Allamah al-Albani wrote that there is no proof for restricting it to the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him.) [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1073]

سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: جو شخص فوت ہو جائے اور نہ جہاد کیا ہو اور نہ جہاد کرنے کی نیت کی ہو تو وہ منافقت کی ایک خصلت پر فوت ہوا۔ عبداللہ بن سہم (راوی حدیث) کہتے ہیں کہ عبداللہ بن مبارک نے کہا کہ ہم خیال کرتے ہیں کہ یہ حدیث رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے زمانے سے متعلق ہے۔ (یہ ابن مبارک کا مؤقف ہے۔ علامہ البانی نے لکھا ہے کہ اسے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے زمانے کے ساتھ خاص کرنے کی کوئی دلیل نہیں ہے)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1073]
