English Translation
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) with some men of the Ash'ariyyin to ask him for mounts. He said: "By Allah, I will not give you mounts, and I have no mounts to give you." Then we waited as long as Allah willed. After that some camels came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he ordered that we be given three camels with white humps. When we set off, we, or some of us, said: "May Allah not bless us! We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and asked for mounts, and he swore that he would not give us mounts, then he gave us mounts." Then the people came and told the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he said: "It is not I who mounted you, but Allah who mounted you. As for me, by Allah, if Allah wills, I do not swear an oath about a matter and then see something better than it but that I make expiation for my oath and do that which is better." Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس چند اشعریوں کے ساتھ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے سواری مانگنے کے لئے آیا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اللہ کی قسم میں تم کو سواری نہیں دوں گا اور نہ میرے پاس تمہیں دینے کے لئے کوئی سواری ہے۔ پھر ہم ٹھہرے رہے جتنی دیر کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے چاہا۔ اس کے بعد رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس اونٹ آئے، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سفید کوہان کے تین اونٹ ہمیں دینے کا حکم کیا۔ جب ہم چلے تو ہم نے یا بعضوں نے کہا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ ہمیں برکت نہ دے کہ ہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آئے اور سواری مانگی تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے قسم کھائی کہ ہمیں سواری نہ ملے گی، پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ہمیں سواری دی۔ پھر لوگوں نے آ کر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے کہا، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ میں نے تمہیں سوار نہیں کیا لیکن اللہ تعالیٰ نے سوار کیا اور میں تو اگر اللہ چاہے تو کسی بات کی قسم نہ کھاؤں گا مگر پھر اس سے بہتر دوسرا کام دیکھوں گا تو اپنی قسم کا کفارہ دوں گا اور وہ کام کروں گا جو بہتر ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1018]
