It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Salama. He heard the tradition from his father who said:We arrived at Hudaibiya with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and we were fourteen hundred in number. There were fifty goats for them which could not be watered (by the small quantity of water in the local well). So, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) sat on the brink of the well. Either he prayed or spat into the well The water welled up. We drank and watered (the beasts as well). Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) called us to take the vow of allegiance, as he was sitting at the base of a tree. I was the first man to take the vow. Then other people took the vow. When half the number of people had done so, he said to me: You take the vow, Salama. I said: I was one of those who took the vow in the first instance. He said: (You may do) again. Then the Messenger. of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saw that I was without weapons. He gave me a big or a small shield. Then he continued to administer vows to the people until it was the last batch of them. He said (to me): Won't you swear allegiance, Salama? I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I took the oath with the first batch of the people and then again when you were in the middle of the people. He said: (Doesn't matter), you may (do so) again. So I took the oath of allegiance thrice. Then he said to me: Salama, where is the shield which I gave to thee? I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), my uncle 'Amir met me and he was without any weapons. So I gave the shield to him. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) laughed and said: You are like a person of the days gone by who said: O God. I seek a friend who is dearer to me than myself. (When all Companions had sworn allegiance to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)), the polytheists sent messages of peace, until people could move from our camp to that of the Meccans and vice versa. Finally, the peace treaty was concluded. I was a dependant of Hadrat Talha b. Ubaidullah. I watered his horse, rubbed its back. I served Hadrat Talha (doing odd jobs for him) and partook from his food. I had left my family and my property as an emigrant in the cause of Allah and His Messenger (may peace be uron him). When we and the people of Mecca had concluded a peace treaty and the people of one side began to mix with those of the other, I came to a tree, swept away its thorns and lay down (for rest) at its base; (while I lay there), four of the polytheists from the Meccans came to me and began to talk ill of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I got enraged with them and moved to another tree. They hung their weapons (to the branches of the tree) and lay down (for rest). (While they lay there), somebody from the lower part of the valley cried out: Run up, O Muhajirs! Ibn Zunaim has been murdered. I drew my sword and attacked these four while they were asleep. I seized their arms and collected them up in my hand, and said: By the Being Who has conferred honour upon Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), none of you shall raise his head, else I will smite his face. (Then) I came driving them along to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). (At the same time). my uncle Amir came (to him) with a man from" Abalat called Mikraz. Amir was dragging him on a horse with a thick covering on its back along with seventy polytheists. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) cast a glance at them and said: Let them go (so that) they may prove guilty of breach of trust more than once (before we take action against them). So the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forgave them. On this occasion. God revealed the Qur'anic verse:" It is He Who restrained their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Mecca after He had granted you a victory over them" (xlviii. 24). Then we moved returning to Medina, and halted at a place where there was a mountain between us and Banu Lihyan who were polytheists. The Messenaer of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked God's forgiveness for one who ascended the mountain at night to act as a scout for the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his Compinions. I ascended (that mountain) twice or thrice that night. (At last) we reached Medina. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) sent his camels with his slave, Rabah, and I was with him. I (also) went to the pasture with the horse of Hadrat Talha along with the camels. When the day dawned, Hadrat Abd al-Rahman al-Fazari made a raid and drove away all the camels of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and killed the man who looked after them. I said: Rabah, ride this horse, take it to Hadrat Talha b. 'Ubaidullah and Inform the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that the polytheists have made away with his camels. Then I stood upon a hillock and turning my face to Medina, shouted thrice: Come to our help I Then I set out in pursuit of the raiders, shooting at them with arrows and chanting a (self-eulogatory) verse in the Iambic metre: I am the son of al-Akwa' And today is the day of defeat for the mean. I would overtake a man from them, shoot at him an arrow which, piercing through the saddle, would reach his shoulder. and I would say: Take it, chanting at the same time the verse And I am the son of al-Akwa' And tody is the day of defeat for the mean. By God, I continued shooting at them and hamstringing their animals. Whenever a horseman turned upon me, I would come to a tree and (hid myself) sitting at its base. Then I would shoot at him and hamstring his horse. (At last) they entered a narrow mountain gorge. I ascended that mountain and held them at bay throwing stones at them. I continued to chase them in this way until I got all the camels of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) released and no camel was left with them. They left me; then I followed them shooting at them (continually) until they dropped more than thirty mantles and thirty lances. lightening their burden. On everything they dropped, I put a mark with the help of (a piece of) stone so that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his Companions might recognise them (that it was booty left by the enemy). (They went on) until They came to a narrow valley when so and so, son of Badr al-Fazari joined them. They (now) sat down to take their breakfast and I sat on the top of a tapering rock. Al-Fazari said: Who is that fellow I am seeing? They said: This fellow has harassed us. By God, he has not left us since dusk and has been (continually) shooting at us until he has snatched everything from our hands. He said: Four of you should make a dash at him (and kill him). (Accordingly), four of them ascended the mountain coming towards me. When it became possible for me to talk to them, I said: Do you recognise me? They said: No. Who are thou? I said: I am Salama, son of al-Akwa'. By the Being Who has honoured the countenance of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) I can kill any of you I like but none of you will be able to kill me. One of them said: I think (he is right). So they returned. I did not move from my place until I saw the horsemen of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), who came riding through the trees. Lo! the foremost among them was Akhram al-Asadi. Behind him was Hadrat Abu Qatada al-Ansari and behind him was al-Miqdad b. al-Aswad al-Kindi. I caught hold of the rein of Akhram's horse (Seeing this). they (the raiders) fled. I said (to Akhram): Akhram, guard yourself against them until Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his Companions join you. He said: ) Salama, if you believe In Allah and the Day of Judgment and (if) you kaow that Paradise is a reality and Hell is a reality, you should not stand between me and martyrdom. so I let him go. Akhram and Hadrat Abd al-Rahman (Fazari) met in combat. Akhram hamstrung Hadrat Abd al-Rahman's horse and the latter struck him with his lance and killed him. Abd al-Rabman turned about riding Akhram's horse. Hadrat Abu Qatada, a horse-man of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), met Hadrat 'Abd al-Rahman (in combat), smote him with his lance and killed him. By the Being Who honoured the countenance of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) (may peace oe upon him), I followed them running on my feet (so fast) that I couldn't see behind me the Companions of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), nor any dust raised by their horses. (I followed them) until before sunset they reached a valley which had a spring of water, which was called Dhu Qarad, so that they could have a drink, for they were thirsty. They saw me running towards them. I turned them out of the valley before they could drink a drop of its water. They left the valley and ran down a slope. I ran (behind them), overtook a man from them, shot him with an arrow through the shoulder blade and said: Take this. I am the son of al-Akwa'; and today is the day of annihilation for the people who are mean. The fellow (who was wounded) said: May his mother weep over him! Are you the Akwa' who has been chasing us since morning? I said: Yes, O enemy of thyself, the same Akwa'. They left two horses dead tired on the hillock and I came dragging them along to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I met 'Amir who had with him a container having milk diluted with water and a container having water. I performed ablution with the water and drank the milk. Then I came to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) while he was at (the spring of) water from which I had driven them away. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had captured those camels and everything else I had captured and all the lances and mantles I had snatched from the polytheists and Hadrat Bilal had slaughtered a she-camel from the camels I had seized from the people, and was roasting its liver and hump for the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), let me select from our people one hundred men and I will follow the marauders and I will finish them all so that nobody is left to convey the news (of their destruction to their people). (At these words of mine), the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) laughed so much that his molar teeth could be seen in the light of the fire, and he said: Salama, do you think you can do this? I said: Yes, by the Being Who has honoured you. He said: Now they have reached the land of Ghatafan where they are being feted. (At this time) a man from the Ghatafan came along and said: So and so slaughtered a camel for them. When they were exposing its skin, they saw dust (being raised far off). They said: They (Akwa' and his companions) have come. So. they went away fleeing. When it was morning, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Our best horseman today is Hadrat Abu Qatada and our best footman today is Salama. Then he gave me two shares of the booty-the share meant for the horseman and the share meant for the footman, and combined both of them for me. Intending to return to Medina, he made me mount behind him on his she-camel named al-Adba'. While we were travelling, a man from the Ansar who could not be beaten in a race said: Is there anyone who could compete (with me) in race to Medina? Is there any competitor? He continued repeating this. When I heard his talk, I said: Don't you show consideration to a dignified person and don't you have awe for a noble man? He said: No, unless he be the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), may my father and mother be thy ransom, let me get down so that I may beat this man (in the race). He said: It you wish, (you may). I said (to the man): I am coming to thee, I then turned my feet. sprang up and tan and gasped (for a while) when one or two elevated places were left and again followed his heel and again gasped (for a while) when one or two elevated places were left and again dashed until I joined him and gave a blow between his shoulders. I said: You have been overtaken, by God. He said: I think so. Thus, I reached Medina ahead of him. By God, we had stayed there only three nights when we set out to Khaibar with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). (On the way) my uncle, Amir, began to recite the following rajaz verses for the people: By God, if Thou hadst not guided us aright, We would have neither practised charity nor offered prayers. (O God! ) We cannot do without Thy favours; Keep us steadfast when we encounter the enemy, And descend tranquillity upon us. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Who is this? 'Amir said: it is 'Amir. He said: May thy God forgive thee! The narrator said: Whenever the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) inquired forgiveness for a particular person, he was sure to embrace martyrdom. Umar b. Khattab who was riding on his camel called out: the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) of Allah, I wish you had allowed us to benefit from Amir. Salama continued: When we reached Khaibar, its king named Marhab advanced brandishing his sword and chanting: Khaibar knows that I am Marhab (who behaves like) A fully armed, and well-tried warrior. When the war comes spreading its flames. My uncle, Amir, came out to combat with him, saying: Khaibar certainly knows that I am 'Amir, A fully armed veteran who plunges into battles. They exchanged blows. Marbab's sword struck the shield of 'Amir who bent forward to attack his opponent from below, but his sword recoiled upon him and cut the main artery: in his forearm which caused his death. Salama said: I came out and heard some people among the Companions of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saying: Amir's deed has been wasted; he has killed himself. So I came to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) weeping and I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Amir's deed has been wasted. The Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: Who passed this remark? I said: Some of your Companions. He said: He who has passed that remark has told a lie, for 'Amir there is a double reward. Then he sent me to 'Ali who had sore eyes, and said: I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger or whom Allah and His Messenger love. So I went to Hadrat 'Ali, brought him beading him along and he had sore eyes, and I took him to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), who applied his saliva to his eyes and he got well. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) gave him the banner (and 'Ali went to meet Marhab in a single combat). The latter advanced chanting: Khaibar knows certainly that I am Marhab, A fully armed and well-tried valorous warrior (hero) When war comes spreading its flames. 'Ali chanted in reply: I am the one whose mother named him Haidar, (And am) like a lion of the forest with a terror-striking countenance. I give my opponents the measure of sandara in exchange for sa' (i. e. return thir attack with one that is much more fierce). The narrator said: 'Ali struck at the head of Mirhab and killed him, so the victory (capture of Khaibar) was due to him. This long tradition has also been handed down Through a different chain of transmitters
Urdu Translation
ایاس بن سلمہ نے اپنے والد (حضرت سلمہ بن اکوع رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) سے روایت کی ، کہا : ہم حدیبیہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ پہنچے ، ہم چودہ سو تھے اور وہاں پچاس بکریاں تھیں جو اُن کو سیراب نہیں کر سکتی تھیں ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کنویں کے کنارے بیٹھے ، یا تو دعا فرمائی یا اس میں تھوکا ، تو کنویں نے جوش مارا ، ہم نے پانی پیا اور سیراب ہوئے ۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ہمیں درخت کے نیچے بیعت کے لیے بلایا ۔ میں نے سب سے پہلے بیعت کی ، پھر لوگ بیعت کرتے رہے ، یہاں تک کہ جب آدھے لوگ ہو گئے تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا : "بیعت کرو ، اے سلمہ!" میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! میں سب سے پہلے بیعت کر چکا ہوں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "پھر بھی (کر لو)۔" رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مجھے بے ہتھیار دیکھا تو مجھے ایک حَجَفہ (چھوٹی ڈھال) یا دَرَقہ عطا فرمائی ۔ پھر آپ بیعت لیتے رہے ، یہاں تک کہ جب آخری لوگ رہ گئے تو آپ نے فرمایا : "کیا تم بیعت نہیں کرو گے اے سلمہ؟" میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! میں پہلے بھی اور درمیان میں بھی بیعت کر چکا ہوں ۔ فرمایا : "پھر بھی (کر لو)۔" میں نے تیسری مرتبہ بیعت کی ۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا : "اے سلمہ! تمہاری وہ حَجَفہ یا دَرَقہ کہاں ہے جو میں نے تمہیں دی تھی؟" میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! میرے چچا عامر بے ہتھیار ملے تو میں نے وہ ان کو دے دی ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہنسے اور فرمایا : "تم اس شخص کی طرح ہو جس نے کہا تھا : اے اللہ! مجھے ایک ایسا دوست عطا فرما جو مجھے اپنی جان سے بھی زیادہ محبوب ہو ۔" پھر مشرکین نے ہمارے ساتھ صلح کے پیغامات بھیجے ، یہاں تک کہ ہم ایک دوسرے میں آنے جانے لگے اور صلح ہو گئی ۔ میں حضرت طلحہ بن عبیداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کا خادم تھا ، ان کے گھوڑے کو پانی پلاتا ، اس کی مالش کرتا اور خدمت کرتا اور ان کا کھانا کھاتا ، اور اپنے گھر والوں اور مال کو چھوڑ کر اللہ اور اس کے رسول صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی طرف ہجرت کر آیا تھا ۔ جب ہماری اور اہلِ مکہ کی صلح ہو گئی اور ہم آپس میں مل جل گئے تو میں ایک درخت کے پاس آیا ، اس کے کانٹے صاف کیے اور اس کی جڑ میں لیٹ گیا ۔ مکہ کے چار مشرک میرے پاس آئے اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی شان میں گستاخی کرنے لگے ، مجھے ان سے نفرت ہوئی اور میں دوسرے درخت کی طرف چلا گیا ۔ انہوں نے اپنے ہتھیار لٹکائے اور لیٹ گئے ۔ اتنے میں وادی کے نچلے حصے سے کسی نے پکارا : اے مہاجرین! ابنِ زُنَیم قتل ہو گیا ۔ میں نے تلوار نکالی اور ان چاروں پر حملہ کیا جبکہ وہ سوئے ہوئے تھے ، ان کے ہتھیار لے لیے اور مٹھی میں بٹور لیے ۔ پھر کہا : اس ذات کی قسم جس نے محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے چہرے کو عزت بخشی! تم میں سے کوئی سر اٹھائے گا تو میں اسے مار ڈالوں گا ۔ پھر میں ان کو ہانکتا ہوا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس لایا ۔ میرے چچا عامر بھی ایک شخص کو ستر مشرکین کے ساتھ لائے جس کا نام مِکرَز تھا ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کی طرف دیکھا اور فرمایا : "چھوڑ دو انہیں ، ان کے لیے فساد کی ابتداء اور اس کا تکرار ہو گا ۔" پس رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کو معاف فرما دیا اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت نازل فرمائی : ﴿وَهُوَ الَّذِي كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُم بِبَطْنِ مَكَّةَ مِن بَعْدِ أَنْ أَظْفَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ﴾ پوری آیت ۔ پھر ہم مدینہ واپس لوٹے اور ایک جگہ ٹھہرے جہاں ہمارے اور بنو لحیان (مشرکین) کے درمیان ایک پہاڑ تھا ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اس شخص کے لیے استغفار فرمایا جو رات کو اس پہاڑ پر چڑھ کر پہرہ دے ۔ حضرت سلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : میں اس رات دو یا تین مرتبہ چڑھا ۔ پھر ہم مدینہ پہنچے ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنے اونٹ اپنے غلام رباح کے ساتھ بھیجے اور میں بھی ان کے ساتھ تھا ، اور حضرت طلحہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے گھوڑے کو بھی ساتھ لے گیا ۔ صبح ہوئی تو عبدالرحمٰن فزاری نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے اونٹوں پر حملہ کیا ، سب اونٹ ہانک لے گیا اور چرواہے کو قتل کر دیا ۔ میں نے کہا : اے رباح! یہ گھوڑا لو اور حضرت طلحہ بن عبیداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو پہنچاؤ اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو خبر دو کہ مشرکین نے آپ کے اونٹوں پر حملہ کیا ہے ۔ پھر میں ایک ٹیلے پر کھڑا ہوا اور مدینہ کی طرف منہ کر کے تین بار پکارا : یا صباحاہ! پھر میں ان لوگوں کے پیچھے نکلا ، ان پر تیر چلاتا اور رجز پڑھتا : میں ابن اکوع ہوں ، آج کمینوں کی ہلاکت کا دن ہے ۔ میں ان میں سے ایک شخص کو جا لیتا اور اس کے پالان میں تیر مارتا یہاں تک کہ تیر کا پھل اس کے کندھے تک پہنچ جاتا ۔ خدا کی قسم! میں برابر ان پر تیر چلاتا رہا اور ان کے گھوڑوں کو زخمی کرتا رہا ۔ جب کوئی سوار میری طرف پلٹتا تو میں درخت کے نیچے بیٹھ جاتا اور اسے تیر مارتا ۔ یہاں تک کہ پہاڑ تنگ ہوا اور وہ اس تنگنائی میں داخل ہو گئے ، میں پہاڑ پر چڑھ گیا اور انہیں پتھر مارنے لگا ۔ میں برابر ان کا پیچھا کرتا رہا یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا ہر اونٹ جو اللہ نے پیدا کیا تھا ، میں نے اپنے پیچھے چھوڑ دیا اور وہ میرے اور ان کے درمیان رہ گئے ۔ پھر میں ان کے پیچھے پڑا ، تیر مارتا رہا یہاں تک کہ انہوں نے تیس سے زیادہ چادریں اور تیس نیزے پھینک دیے تاکہ ہلکے ہو جائیں ۔ جو کچھ بھی وہ پھینکتے میں اس پر پتھر کا نشان لگا دیتا تاکہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اور صحابہ رضوان اللہ عنھم اجمعین پہچان لیں ۔ یہاں تک کہ وہ ایک گھاٹی کی تنگنائی میں پہنچے ، وہاں فلاں بن بدر فزاری ان سے آ ملا ۔ وہ ناشتا کرنے بیٹھے اور میں ایک چوٹی پر بیٹھ گیا ۔ فزاری نے کہا : یہ کیا ہے جو مجھے دکھائی دیتا ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا : اس شخص نے ہمیں بڑی تکلیف دی ہے ، خدا کی قسم! صبح سے ہمارا ساتھ نہیں چھوڑا اور ہمارے ہاتھوں سے سب چھین لیا ۔ اس نے کہا : تم میں سے چار آدمی اس کی طرف جائیں ۔ چار آدمی پہاڑ پر میری طرف آئے ۔ جب وہ میری بات سننے کی حد میں آئے تو میں نے کہا : مجھے پہچانتے ہو؟ انہوں نے کہا : نہیں ، تو کون ہے؟ میں نے کہا : میں سلمہ بن اکوع ہوں ، اس ذات کی قسم جس نے محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے چہرے کو عزت بخشی! تم میں سے جسے بھی میں پکڑنا چاہوں پکڑ لوں اور تم میں سے کوئی مجھے نہیں پکڑ سکتا ۔ ان میں سے ایک نے کہا : مجھے بھی ایسا ہی لگتا ہے ۔ وہ واپس لوٹ گئے ۔ میں وہیں رہا یہاں تک کہ مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سوار درختوں کے درمیان سے آتے دکھائی دیے ۔ سب سے آگے اخرم اسدی تھے ، ان کے پیچھے حضرت ابوقتادہ انصاری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اور ان کے پیچھے مقداد بن اسود کندی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ تھے ۔ میں نے اخرم کے گھوڑے کی لگام پکڑی ۔ دشمن بھاگ گئے ۔ میں نے کہا : اے اخرم! ان سے بچو ، ان سے کٹ نہ جاؤ ، یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اور صحابہ رضوان اللہ عنھم اجمعین آ ملیں ۔ اخرم نے کہا : اے سلمہ! اگر تم اللہ اور آخرت پر ایمان رکھتے ہو اور جانتے ہو کہ جنت حق ہے اور جہنم حق ہے تو میرے اور شہادت کے درمیان حائل نہ ہو ۔ میں نے انہیں چھوڑ دیا ۔ اخرم اور عبدالرحمٰن کی ملاقات ہوئی ۔ اخرم نے عبدالرحمٰن کے گھوڑے کو زخمی کیا اور عبدالرحمٰن نے اخرم کو نیزے سے مار کر شہید کر دیا اور ان کے گھوڑے پر سوار ہو گیا ۔ حضرت ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عبدالرحمٰن کو جا لیا اور نیزے سے مار کر قتل کیا ۔ اس ذات کی قسم جس نے محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے چہرے کو عزت بخشی! میں پیدل دوڑتا رہا یہاں تک کہ اصحاب محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا کوئی آدمی اور ان کا غبار بھی مجھے نظر نہیں آتا تھا ۔ وہ (دشمن) غروب آفتاب سے پہلے ایک گھاٹی میں مُڑے جہاں ذوقَرَد نامی پانی تھا تاکہ پی سکیں کیونکہ وہ پیاسے تھے ۔ جب انہوں نے مجھے دوڑتا دیکھا تو میں نے انہیں وہاں سے بھگا دیا ، انہوں نے ایک قطرہ بھی نہ پی سکا ۔ وہ بھاگ کر ایک گھاٹی میں چڑھنے لگے ، میں دوڑ کر ان میں سے ایک کو پکڑتا اور اس کے کندھے کی ہڈی میں تیر مارتا اور کہتا : لے یہ! میں ابن اکوع ہوں ، آج کمینوں کی ہلاکت کا دن ہے ۔ وہ بولا : اس کی ماں اسے کھوئے! کیا یہ صبح والا ہی اکوع ہے؟ میں نے کہا : ہاں اے اپنے نفس کے دشمن! صبح والا ہی اکوع ہوں ۔ انہوں نے گھاٹی پر دو تھکے ہارے گھوڑے چھوڑ دیے ، میں ان کو ہانکتا ہوا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس لایا ۔ میرے چچا عامر مجھ سے ملے ، ان کے پاس دودھ ملے پانی کا مشکیزہ اور پانی کا مشکیزہ تھا ۔ میں نے وضو کیا اور پیا ۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آیا ، آپ اسی پانی پر تھے جہاں سے میں نے انہیں بھگایا تھا ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے وہ سب اونٹ اور ہر چیز لے لی تھی جو میں نے مشرکین سے چھینی تھی اور ہر نیزہ اور چادر ۔ حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے ان اونٹوں میں سے ایک اونٹنی ذبح کی تھی اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے لیے اس کا کلیجی اور کوہان بھون رہے تھے ۔ میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! مجھے اجازت دیں کہ سو آدمی چن کر ان کے پیچھے جاؤں ، ان میں سے کوئی خبر دینے والا بھی نہیں بچے گا ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اتنا ہنسے کہ آگ کی روشنی میں آپ کی داڑھیں نظر آئیں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "اے سلمہ! کیا تم واقعی ایسا کر سکتے ہو؟" میں نے عرض کیا : ہاں ، اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو عزت بخشی! آپ نے فرمایا : "وہ اب غطفان کی سرزمین میں مہمانی کر رہے ہیں ۔" غطفان سے ایک شخص آیا اور بتایا : فلاں نے ان کے لیے اونٹ ذبح کیا ، جب انہوں نے اس کی کھال اتاری تو غبار دیکھا اور کہا : لوگ آ گئے! تو وہ بھاگ نکلے ۔ صبح ہوئی تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا : "آج ہمارا بہترین سوار حضرت ابوقتادہ ہے اور بہترین پیادہ سلمہ ہے ۔" پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مجھے دو حصے عطا فرمائے : سوار کا حصہ اور پیادے کا حصہ ، دونوں مجھے جمع کر کے دیے ۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مجھے اپنی عضباء اونٹنی پر اپنے پیچھے سوار فرمایا اور ہم مدینہ لوٹے ۔ راستے میں ایک انصاری جو دوڑ میں نہیں ہارتا تھا ، کہنے لگا : کوئی ہے مدینہ تک دوڑ لگانے والا؟ وہ یہ بار بار کہتا رہا ۔ جب میں نے سنا تو کہا : کیا تم کسی معزز آدمی کی عزت نہیں کرتے؟ اس نے کہا : نہیں ، مگر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہوں ۔ میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! میرے ماں باپ آپ پر قربان ، مجھے اجازت دیں کہ اس سے دوڑ لگاؤں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "اگر تم چاہو ۔" میں نے کہا : ٹھہرو ، اور پاؤں موڑ کر چھلانگ لگائی اور دوڑا ۔ میں نے ایک یا دو ٹیلے تک رک کر سانس بچایا ، پھر اس کے پیچھے دوڑا اور پھر رک کر سانس بچایا ، پھر تیز ہوا یہاں تک کہ اسے پکڑ لیا اور اس کے کندھوں کے بیچ ہاتھ مارا اور کہا : خدا کی قسم تم ہار گئے! اس نے کہا : مجھے بھی ایسا ہی لگتا ہے ۔ میں اس سے آگے مدینہ پہنچا ۔ خدا کی قسم! ہم وہاں صرف تین رات رہے تھے کہ ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ خیبر کو نکلے ۔ میرے چچا عامر رجز پڑھنے لگے : خدا کی قسم! اگر اللہ نہ ہوتا تو ہم ہدایت نہ پاتے ، نہ صدقہ دیتے اور نہ نماز پڑھتے ۔ ہم تیرے فضل سے بے نیاز نہیں ہیں ، قدموں کو ثابت رکھ جب دشمن سے سامنا ہو ، اور ہم پر سکینت نازل فرما ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا : "یہ کون ہے؟" عامر نے کہا : میں عامر ہوں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "تیرا رب تجھے معاف فرمائے ۔" جب بھی رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کسی خاص شخص کے لیے استغفار فرماتے تو وہ شہید ہو جاتا ۔ حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اپنے اونٹ پر سے پکارے : اے نبی اللہ! کاش آپ ہمیں عامر سے اور فائدہ اٹھانے دیتے ۔ جب ہم خیبر پہنچے تو ان کا بادشاہ مرحب تلوار لہراتا نکلا اور کہنے لگا : خیبر جانتا ہے میں مرحب ہوں ، مسلح ، آزمودہ بہادر ، جب جنگیں بھڑک اٹھیں ۔ میرے چچا عامر مقابلے میں نکلے اور کہا : خیبر جانتا ہے میں عامر ہوں ، مسلح ، مہم جو بہادر ۔ دونوں نے وار کیے ، مرحب کی تلوار عامر کی ڈھال پر لگی اور عامر نے نیچے سے وار کرنا چاہا ، ان کی تلوار پلٹ کر خود ان کے بازو کی رگ پر لگی اور وہ شہید ہو گئے ۔ حضرت سلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : میں باہر نکلا تو نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے کچھ صحابہ رضوان اللہ عنھم اجمعین کہہ رہے تھے : عامر کا عمل ضائع ہو گیا ، اس نے خود کو مار لیا ۔ میں روتا ہوا نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آیا اور عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! کیا عامر کا عمل ضائع ہو گیا؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا : "کس نے یہ کہا؟" میں نے عرض کیا : آپ کے کچھ صحابہ نے ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "جس نے یہ کہا اس نے جھوٹ بولا ، بلکہ اس کے لیے دوگنا اجر ہے ۔" پھر آپ نے مجھے حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم کے پاس بھیجا جن کی آنکھیں دُکھ رہی تھیں ، اور فرمایا : "میں یقیناً اس شخص کو جھنڈا دوں گا جو اللہ اور اس کے رسول سے محبت کرتا ہے یا جس سے اللہ اور اس کا رسول محبت فرماتے ہیں ۔" میں حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم کو ہاتھ سے پکڑ کر لایا ، ان کی آنکھیں دُکھ رہی تھیں ، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کی آنکھوں میں اپنا لعابِ دہن لگایا تو وہ صحت یاب ہو گئے ، اور آپ نے انہیں جھنڈا عطا فرمایا ۔ مرحب نکلا اور کہنے لگا : خیبر جانتا ہے میں مرحب ہوں ۔ حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم نے فرمایا : میں وہ ہوں جس کی ماں نے میرا نام حیدرہ رکھا ، جنگل کے شیر کی طرح جس کی شکل دہشت ناک ہے ، میں انہیں صندرہ کے پیمانے سے ناپ کر دوں گا ۔ آپ نے مرحب کے سر پر ضرب لگائی اور اسے قتل کیا ، پھر فتح آپ ہی کے ہاتھ پر ہوئی ۔
It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Salama. He heard the tradition from his father who said:We arrived at Hudaibiya with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and we were fourteen hundred in number. There were fifty goats for them which could not be watered (by the small quantity of water in the local well). So, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) sat on the brink of the well. Either he prayed or spat into the well The water welled up. We drank and watered (the beasts as well). Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) called us to take the vow of allegiance, as he was sitting at the base of a tree. I was the first man to take the vow. Then other people took the vow. When half the number of people had done so, he said to me: You take the vow, Salama. I said: I was one of those who took the vow in the first instance. He said: (You may do) again. Then the Messenger. of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saw that I was without weapons. He gave me a big or a small shield. Then he continued to administer vows to the people until it was the last batch of them. He said (to me): Won't you swear allegiance, Salama? I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I took the oath with the first batch of the people and then again when you were in the middle of the people. He said: (Doesn't matter), you may (do so) again. So I took the oath of allegiance thrice. Then he said to me: Salama, where is the shield which I gave to thee? I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), my uncle 'Amir met me and he was without any weapons. So I gave the shield to him. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) laughed and said: You are like a person of the days gone by who said: O God. I seek a friend who is dearer to me than myself. (When all Companions had sworn allegiance to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)), the polytheists sent messages of peace, until people could move from our camp to that of the Meccans and vice versa. Finally, the peace treaty was concluded. I was a dependant of Hadrat Talha b. Ubaidullah. I watered his horse, rubbed its back. I served Hadrat Talha (doing odd jobs for him) and partook from his food. I had left my family and my property as an emigrant in the cause of Allah and His Messenger (may peace be uron him). When we and the people of Mecca had concluded a peace treaty and the people of one side began to mix with those of the other, I came to a tree, swept away its thorns and lay down (for rest) at its base; (while I lay there), four of the polytheists from the Meccans came to me and began to talk ill of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I got enraged with them and moved to another tree. They hung their weapons (to the branches of the tree) and lay down (for rest). (While they lay there), somebody from the lower part of the valley cried out: Run up, O Muhajirs! Ibn Zunaim has been murdered. I drew my sword and attacked these four while they were asleep. I seized their arms and collected them up in my hand, and said: By the Being Who has conferred honour upon Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), none of you shall raise his head, else I will smite his face. (Then) I came driving them along to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). (At the same time). my uncle Amir came (to him) with a man from" Abalat called Mikraz. Amir was dragging him on a horse with a thick covering on its back along with seventy polytheists. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) cast a glance at them and said: Let them go (so that) they may prove guilty of breach of trust more than once (before we take action against them). So the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forgave them. On this occasion. God revealed the Qur'anic verse:" It is He Who restrained their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Mecca after He had granted you a victory over them" (xlviii. 24). Then we moved returning to Medina, and halted at a place where there was a mountain between us and Banu Lihyan who were polytheists. The Messenaer of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked God's forgiveness for one who ascended the mountain at night to act as a scout for the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his Compinions. I ascended (that mountain) twice or thrice that night. (At last) we reached Medina. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) sent his camels with his slave, Rabah, and I was with him. I (also) went to the pasture with the horse of Hadrat Talha along with the camels. When the day dawned, Hadrat Abd al-Rahman al-Fazari made a raid and drove away all the camels of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and killed the man who looked after them. I said: Rabah, ride this horse, take it to Hadrat Talha b. 'Ubaidullah and Inform the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that the polytheists have made away with his camels. Then I stood upon a hillock and turning my face to Medina, shouted thrice: Come to our help I Then I set out in pursuit of the raiders, shooting at them with arrows and chanting a (self-eulogatory) verse in the Iambic metre: I am the son of al-Akwa' And today is the day of defeat for the mean. I would overtake a man from them, shoot at him an arrow which, piercing through the saddle, would reach his shoulder. and I would say: Take it, chanting at the same time the verse And I am the son of al-Akwa' And tody is the day of defeat for the mean. By God, I continued shooting at them and hamstringing their animals. Whenever a horseman turned upon me, I would come to a tree and (hid myself) sitting at its base. Then I would shoot at him and hamstring his horse. (At last) they entered a narrow mountain gorge. I ascended that mountain and held them at bay throwing stones at them. I continued to chase them in this way until I got all the camels of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) released and no camel was left with them. They left me; then I followed them shooting at them (continually) until they dropped more than thirty mantles and thirty lances. lightening their burden. On everything they dropped, I put a mark with the help of (a piece of) stone so that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his Companions might recognise them (that it was booty left by the enemy). (They went on) until They came to a narrow valley when so and so, son of Badr al-Fazari joined them. They (now) sat down to take their breakfast and I sat on the top of a tapering rock. Al-Fazari said: Who is that fellow I am seeing? They said: This fellow has harassed us. By God, he has not left us since dusk and has been (continually) shooting at us until he has snatched everything from our hands. He said: Four of you should make a dash at him (and kill him). (Accordingly), four of them ascended the mountain coming towards me. When it became possible for me to talk to them, I said: Do you recognise me? They said: No. Who are thou? I said: I am Salama, son of al-Akwa'. By the Being Who has honoured the countenance of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) I can kill any of you I like but none of you will be able to kill me. One of them said: I think (he is right). So they returned. I did not move from my place until I saw the horsemen of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), who came riding through the trees. Lo! the foremost among them was Akhram al-Asadi. Behind him was Hadrat Abu Qatada al-Ansari and behind him was al-Miqdad b. al-Aswad al-Kindi. I caught hold of the rein of Akhram's horse (Seeing this). they (the raiders) fled. I said (to Akhram): Akhram, guard yourself against them until Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his Companions join you. He said: ) Salama, if you believe In Allah and the Day of Judgment and (if) you kaow that Paradise is a reality and Hell is a reality, you should not stand between me and martyrdom. so I let him go. Akhram and Hadrat Abd al-Rahman (Fazari) met in combat. Akhram hamstrung Hadrat Abd al-Rahman's horse and the latter struck him with his lance and killed him. Abd al-Rabman turned about riding Akhram's horse. Hadrat Abu Qatada, a horse-man of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), met Hadrat 'Abd al-Rahman (in combat), smote him with his lance and killed him. By the Being Who honoured the countenance of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) (may peace oe upon him), I followed them running on my feet (so fast) that I couldn't see behind me the Companions of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), nor any dust raised by their horses. (I followed them) until before sunset they reached a valley which had a spring of water, which was called Dhu Qarad, so that they could have a drink, for they were thirsty. They saw me running towards them. I turned them out of the valley before they could drink a drop of its water. They left the valley and ran down a slope. I ran (behind them), overtook a man from them, shot him with an arrow through the shoulder blade and said: Take this. I am the son of al-Akwa'; and today is the day of annihilation for the people who are mean. The fellow (who was wounded) said: May his mother weep over him! Are you the Akwa' who has been chasing us since morning? I said: Yes, O enemy of thyself, the same Akwa'. They left two horses dead tired on the hillock and I came dragging them along to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I met 'Amir who had with him a container having milk diluted with water and a container having water. I performed ablution with the water and drank the milk. Then I came to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) while he was at (the spring of) water from which I had driven them away. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had captured those camels and everything else I had captured and all the lances and mantles I had snatched from the polytheists and Hadrat Bilal had slaughtered a she-camel from the camels I had seized from the people, and was roasting its liver and hump for the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), let me select from our people one hundred men and I will follow the marauders and I will finish them all so that nobody is left to convey the news (of their destruction to their people). (At these words of mine), the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) laughed so much that his molar teeth could be seen in the light of the fire, and he said: Salama, do you think you can do this? I said: Yes, by the Being Who has honoured you. He said: Now they have reached the land of Ghatafan where they are being feted. (At this time) a man from the Ghatafan came along and said: So and so slaughtered a camel for them. When they were exposing its skin, they saw dust (being raised far off). They said: They (Akwa' and his companions) have come. So. they went away fleeing. When it was morning, the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Our best horseman today is Hadrat Abu Qatada and our best footman today is Salama. Then he gave me two shares of the booty-the share meant for the horseman and the share meant for the footman, and combined both of them for me. Intending to return to Medina, he made me mount behind him on his she-camel named al-Adba'. While we were travelling, a man from the Ansar who could not be beaten in a race said: Is there anyone who could compete (with me) in race to Medina? Is there any competitor? He continued repeating this. When I heard his talk, I said: Don't you show consideration to a dignified person and don't you have awe for a noble man? He said: No, unless he be the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), may my father and mother be thy ransom, let me get down so that I may beat this man (in the race). He said: It you wish, (you may). I said (to the man): I am coming to thee, I then turned my feet. sprang up and tan and gasped (for a while) when one or two elevated places were left and again followed his heel and again gasped (for a while) when one or two elevated places were left and again dashed until I joined him and gave a blow between his shoulders. I said: You have been overtaken, by God. He said: I think so. Thus, I reached Medina ahead of him. By God, we had stayed there only three nights when we set out to Khaibar with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). (On the way) my uncle, Amir, began to recite the following rajaz verses for the people: By God, if Thou hadst not guided us aright, We would have neither practised charity nor offered prayers. (O God! ) We cannot do without Thy favours; Keep us steadfast when we encounter the enemy, And descend tranquillity upon us. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Who is this? 'Amir said: it is 'Amir. He said: May thy God forgive thee! The narrator said: Whenever the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) inquired forgiveness for a particular person, he was sure to embrace martyrdom. Umar b. Khattab who was riding on his camel called out: the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) of Allah, I wish you had allowed us to benefit from Amir. Salama continued: When we reached Khaibar, its king named Marhab advanced brandishing his sword and chanting: Khaibar knows that I am Marhab (who behaves like) A fully armed, and well-tried warrior. When the war comes spreading its flames. My uncle, Amir, came out to combat with him, saying: Khaibar certainly knows that I am 'Amir, A fully armed veteran who plunges into battles. They exchanged blows. Marbab's sword struck the shield of 'Amir who bent forward to attack his opponent from below, but his sword recoiled upon him and cut the main artery: in his forearm which caused his death. Salama said: I came out and heard some people among the Companions of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saying: Amir's deed has been wasted; he has killed himself. So I came to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) weeping and I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Amir's deed has been wasted. The Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: Who passed this remark? I said: Some of your Companions. He said: He who has passed that remark has told a lie, for 'Amir there is a double reward. Then he sent me to 'Ali who had sore eyes, and said: I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger or whom Allah and His Messenger love. So I went to Hadrat 'Ali, brought him beading him along and he had sore eyes, and I took him to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), who applied his saliva to his eyes and he got well. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) gave him the banner (and 'Ali went to meet Marhab in a single combat). The latter advanced chanting: Khaibar knows certainly that I am Marhab, A fully armed and well-tried valorous warrior (hero) When war comes spreading its flames. 'Ali chanted in reply: I am the one whose mother named him Haidar, (And am) like a lion of the forest with a terror-striking countenance. I give my opponents the measure of sandara in exchange for sa' (i. e. return thir attack with one that is much more fierce). The narrator said: 'Ali struck at the head of Mirhab and killed him, so the victory (capture of Khaibar) was due to him. This long tradition has also been handed down Through a different chain of transmitters
ایاس بن سلمہ نے اپنے والد (حضرت سلمہ بن اکوع رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) سے روایت کی ، کہا : ہم حدیبیہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ پہنچے ، ہم چودہ سو تھے اور وہاں پچاس بکریاں تھیں جو اُن کو سیراب نہیں کر سکتی تھیں ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کنویں کے کنارے بیٹھے ، یا تو دعا فرمائی یا اس میں تھوکا ، تو کنویں نے جوش مارا ، ہم نے پانی پیا اور سیراب ہوئے ۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ہمیں درخت کے نیچے بیعت کے لیے بلایا ۔ میں نے سب سے پہلے بیعت کی ، پھر لوگ بیعت کرتے رہے ، یہاں تک کہ جب آدھے لوگ ہو گئے تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا : "بیعت کرو ، اے سلمہ!" میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! میں سب سے پہلے بیعت کر چکا ہوں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "پھر بھی (کر لو)۔" رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مجھے بے ہتھیار دیکھا تو مجھے ایک حَجَفہ (چھوٹی ڈھال) یا دَرَقہ عطا فرمائی ۔ پھر آپ بیعت لیتے رہے ، یہاں تک کہ جب آخری لوگ رہ گئے تو آپ نے فرمایا : "کیا تم بیعت نہیں کرو گے اے سلمہ؟" میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! میں پہلے بھی اور درمیان میں بھی بیعت کر چکا ہوں ۔ فرمایا : "پھر بھی (کر لو)۔" میں نے تیسری مرتبہ بیعت کی ۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا : "اے سلمہ! تمہاری وہ حَجَفہ یا دَرَقہ کہاں ہے جو میں نے تمہیں دی تھی؟" میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! میرے چچا عامر بے ہتھیار ملے تو میں نے وہ ان کو دے دی ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہنسے اور فرمایا : "تم اس شخص کی طرح ہو جس نے کہا تھا : اے اللہ! مجھے ایک ایسا دوست عطا فرما جو مجھے اپنی جان سے بھی زیادہ محبوب ہو ۔" پھر مشرکین نے ہمارے ساتھ صلح کے پیغامات بھیجے ، یہاں تک کہ ہم ایک دوسرے میں آنے جانے لگے اور صلح ہو گئی ۔ میں حضرت طلحہ بن عبیداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کا خادم تھا ، ان کے گھوڑے کو پانی پلاتا ، اس کی مالش کرتا اور خدمت کرتا اور ان کا کھانا کھاتا ، اور اپنے گھر والوں اور مال کو چھوڑ کر اللہ اور اس کے رسول صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی طرف ہجرت کر آیا تھا ۔ جب ہماری اور اہلِ مکہ کی صلح ہو گئی اور ہم آپس میں مل جل گئے تو میں ایک درخت کے پاس آیا ، اس کے کانٹے صاف کیے اور اس کی جڑ میں لیٹ گیا ۔ مکہ کے چار مشرک میرے پاس آئے اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی شان میں گستاخی کرنے لگے ، مجھے ان سے نفرت ہوئی اور میں دوسرے درخت کی طرف چلا گیا ۔ انہوں نے اپنے ہتھیار لٹکائے اور لیٹ گئے ۔ اتنے میں وادی کے نچلے حصے سے کسی نے پکارا : اے مہاجرین! ابنِ زُنَیم قتل ہو گیا ۔ میں نے تلوار نکالی اور ان چاروں پر حملہ کیا جبکہ وہ سوئے ہوئے تھے ، ان کے ہتھیار لے لیے اور مٹھی میں بٹور لیے ۔ پھر کہا : اس ذات کی قسم جس نے محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے چہرے کو عزت بخشی! تم میں سے کوئی سر اٹھائے گا تو میں اسے مار ڈالوں گا ۔ پھر میں ان کو ہانکتا ہوا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس لایا ۔ میرے چچا عامر بھی ایک شخص کو ستر مشرکین کے ساتھ لائے جس کا نام مِکرَز تھا ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کی طرف دیکھا اور فرمایا : "چھوڑ دو انہیں ، ان کے لیے فساد کی ابتداء اور اس کا تکرار ہو گا ۔" پس رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کو معاف فرما دیا اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت نازل فرمائی : ﴿وَهُوَ الَّذِي كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُم بِبَطْنِ مَكَّةَ مِن بَعْدِ أَنْ أَظْفَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ﴾ پوری آیت ۔ پھر ہم مدینہ واپس لوٹے اور ایک جگہ ٹھہرے جہاں ہمارے اور بنو لحیان (مشرکین) کے درمیان ایک پہاڑ تھا ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اس شخص کے لیے استغفار فرمایا جو رات کو اس پہاڑ پر چڑھ کر پہرہ دے ۔ حضرت سلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : میں اس رات دو یا تین مرتبہ چڑھا ۔ پھر ہم مدینہ پہنچے ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنے اونٹ اپنے غلام رباح کے ساتھ بھیجے اور میں بھی ان کے ساتھ تھا ، اور حضرت طلحہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے گھوڑے کو بھی ساتھ لے گیا ۔ صبح ہوئی تو عبدالرحمٰن فزاری نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے اونٹوں پر حملہ کیا ، سب اونٹ ہانک لے گیا اور چرواہے کو قتل کر دیا ۔ میں نے کہا : اے رباح! یہ گھوڑا لو اور حضرت طلحہ بن عبیداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو پہنچاؤ اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو خبر دو کہ مشرکین نے آپ کے اونٹوں پر حملہ کیا ہے ۔ پھر میں ایک ٹیلے پر کھڑا ہوا اور مدینہ کی طرف منہ کر کے تین بار پکارا : یا صباحاہ! پھر میں ان لوگوں کے پیچھے نکلا ، ان پر تیر چلاتا اور رجز پڑھتا : میں ابن اکوع ہوں ، آج کمینوں کی ہلاکت کا دن ہے ۔ میں ان میں سے ایک شخص کو جا لیتا اور اس کے پالان میں تیر مارتا یہاں تک کہ تیر کا پھل اس کے کندھے تک پہنچ جاتا ۔ خدا کی قسم! میں برابر ان پر تیر چلاتا رہا اور ان کے گھوڑوں کو زخمی کرتا رہا ۔ جب کوئی سوار میری طرف پلٹتا تو میں درخت کے نیچے بیٹھ جاتا اور اسے تیر مارتا ۔ یہاں تک کہ پہاڑ تنگ ہوا اور وہ اس تنگنائی میں داخل ہو گئے ، میں پہاڑ پر چڑھ گیا اور انہیں پتھر مارنے لگا ۔ میں برابر ان کا پیچھا کرتا رہا یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا ہر اونٹ جو اللہ نے پیدا کیا تھا ، میں نے اپنے پیچھے چھوڑ دیا اور وہ میرے اور ان کے درمیان رہ گئے ۔ پھر میں ان کے پیچھے پڑا ، تیر مارتا رہا یہاں تک کہ انہوں نے تیس سے زیادہ چادریں اور تیس نیزے پھینک دیے تاکہ ہلکے ہو جائیں ۔ جو کچھ بھی وہ پھینکتے میں اس پر پتھر کا نشان لگا دیتا تاکہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اور صحابہ رضوان اللہ عنھم اجمعین پہچان لیں ۔ یہاں تک کہ وہ ایک گھاٹی کی تنگنائی میں پہنچے ، وہاں فلاں بن بدر فزاری ان سے آ ملا ۔ وہ ناشتا کرنے بیٹھے اور میں ایک چوٹی پر بیٹھ گیا ۔ فزاری نے کہا : یہ کیا ہے جو مجھے دکھائی دیتا ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا : اس شخص نے ہمیں بڑی تکلیف دی ہے ، خدا کی قسم! صبح سے ہمارا ساتھ نہیں چھوڑا اور ہمارے ہاتھوں سے سب چھین لیا ۔ اس نے کہا : تم میں سے چار آدمی اس کی طرف جائیں ۔ چار آدمی پہاڑ پر میری طرف آئے ۔ جب وہ میری بات سننے کی حد میں آئے تو میں نے کہا : مجھے پہچانتے ہو؟ انہوں نے کہا : نہیں ، تو کون ہے؟ میں نے کہا : میں سلمہ بن اکوع ہوں ، اس ذات کی قسم جس نے محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے چہرے کو عزت بخشی! تم میں سے جسے بھی میں پکڑنا چاہوں پکڑ لوں اور تم میں سے کوئی مجھے نہیں پکڑ سکتا ۔ ان میں سے ایک نے کہا : مجھے بھی ایسا ہی لگتا ہے ۔ وہ واپس لوٹ گئے ۔ میں وہیں رہا یہاں تک کہ مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سوار درختوں کے درمیان سے آتے دکھائی دیے ۔ سب سے آگے اخرم اسدی تھے ، ان کے پیچھے حضرت ابوقتادہ انصاری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اور ان کے پیچھے مقداد بن اسود کندی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ تھے ۔ میں نے اخرم کے گھوڑے کی لگام پکڑی ۔ دشمن بھاگ گئے ۔ میں نے کہا : اے اخرم! ان سے بچو ، ان سے کٹ نہ جاؤ ، یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اور صحابہ رضوان اللہ عنھم اجمعین آ ملیں ۔ اخرم نے کہا : اے سلمہ! اگر تم اللہ اور آخرت پر ایمان رکھتے ہو اور جانتے ہو کہ جنت حق ہے اور جہنم حق ہے تو میرے اور شہادت کے درمیان حائل نہ ہو ۔ میں نے انہیں چھوڑ دیا ۔ اخرم اور عبدالرحمٰن کی ملاقات ہوئی ۔ اخرم نے عبدالرحمٰن کے گھوڑے کو زخمی کیا اور عبدالرحمٰن نے اخرم کو نیزے سے مار کر شہید کر دیا اور ان کے گھوڑے پر سوار ہو گیا ۔ حضرت ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عبدالرحمٰن کو جا لیا اور نیزے سے مار کر قتل کیا ۔ اس ذات کی قسم جس نے محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے چہرے کو عزت بخشی! میں پیدل دوڑتا رہا یہاں تک کہ اصحاب محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا کوئی آدمی اور ان کا غبار بھی مجھے نظر نہیں آتا تھا ۔ وہ (دشمن) غروب آفتاب سے پہلے ایک گھاٹی میں مُڑے جہاں ذوقَرَد نامی پانی تھا تاکہ پی سکیں کیونکہ وہ پیاسے تھے ۔ جب انہوں نے مجھے دوڑتا دیکھا تو میں نے انہیں وہاں سے بھگا دیا ، انہوں نے ایک قطرہ بھی نہ پی سکا ۔ وہ بھاگ کر ایک گھاٹی میں چڑھنے لگے ، میں دوڑ کر ان میں سے ایک کو پکڑتا اور اس کے کندھے کی ہڈی میں تیر مارتا اور کہتا : لے یہ! میں ابن اکوع ہوں ، آج کمینوں کی ہلاکت کا دن ہے ۔ وہ بولا : اس کی ماں اسے کھوئے! کیا یہ صبح والا ہی اکوع ہے؟ میں نے کہا : ہاں اے اپنے نفس کے دشمن! صبح والا ہی اکوع ہوں ۔ انہوں نے گھاٹی پر دو تھکے ہارے گھوڑے چھوڑ دیے ، میں ان کو ہانکتا ہوا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس لایا ۔ میرے چچا عامر مجھ سے ملے ، ان کے پاس دودھ ملے پانی کا مشکیزہ اور پانی کا مشکیزہ تھا ۔ میں نے وضو کیا اور پیا ۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آیا ، آپ اسی پانی پر تھے جہاں سے میں نے انہیں بھگایا تھا ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے وہ سب اونٹ اور ہر چیز لے لی تھی جو میں نے مشرکین سے چھینی تھی اور ہر نیزہ اور چادر ۔ حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے ان اونٹوں میں سے ایک اونٹنی ذبح کی تھی اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے لیے اس کا کلیجی اور کوہان بھون رہے تھے ۔ میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! مجھے اجازت دیں کہ سو آدمی چن کر ان کے پیچھے جاؤں ، ان میں سے کوئی خبر دینے والا بھی نہیں بچے گا ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اتنا ہنسے کہ آگ کی روشنی میں آپ کی داڑھیں نظر آئیں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "اے سلمہ! کیا تم واقعی ایسا کر سکتے ہو؟" میں نے عرض کیا : ہاں ، اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو عزت بخشی! آپ نے فرمایا : "وہ اب غطفان کی سرزمین میں مہمانی کر رہے ہیں ۔" غطفان سے ایک شخص آیا اور بتایا : فلاں نے ان کے لیے اونٹ ذبح کیا ، جب انہوں نے اس کی کھال اتاری تو غبار دیکھا اور کہا : لوگ آ گئے! تو وہ بھاگ نکلے ۔ صبح ہوئی تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا : "آج ہمارا بہترین سوار حضرت ابوقتادہ ہے اور بہترین پیادہ سلمہ ہے ۔" پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مجھے دو حصے عطا فرمائے : سوار کا حصہ اور پیادے کا حصہ ، دونوں مجھے جمع کر کے دیے ۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مجھے اپنی عضباء اونٹنی پر اپنے پیچھے سوار فرمایا اور ہم مدینہ لوٹے ۔ راستے میں ایک انصاری جو دوڑ میں نہیں ہارتا تھا ، کہنے لگا : کوئی ہے مدینہ تک دوڑ لگانے والا؟ وہ یہ بار بار کہتا رہا ۔ جب میں نے سنا تو کہا : کیا تم کسی معزز آدمی کی عزت نہیں کرتے؟ اس نے کہا : نہیں ، مگر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہوں ۔ میں نے عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! میرے ماں باپ آپ پر قربان ، مجھے اجازت دیں کہ اس سے دوڑ لگاؤں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "اگر تم چاہو ۔" میں نے کہا : ٹھہرو ، اور پاؤں موڑ کر چھلانگ لگائی اور دوڑا ۔ میں نے ایک یا دو ٹیلے تک رک کر سانس بچایا ، پھر اس کے پیچھے دوڑا اور پھر رک کر سانس بچایا ، پھر تیز ہوا یہاں تک کہ اسے پکڑ لیا اور اس کے کندھوں کے بیچ ہاتھ مارا اور کہا : خدا کی قسم تم ہار گئے! اس نے کہا : مجھے بھی ایسا ہی لگتا ہے ۔ میں اس سے آگے مدینہ پہنچا ۔ خدا کی قسم! ہم وہاں صرف تین رات رہے تھے کہ ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ خیبر کو نکلے ۔ میرے چچا عامر رجز پڑھنے لگے : خدا کی قسم! اگر اللہ نہ ہوتا تو ہم ہدایت نہ پاتے ، نہ صدقہ دیتے اور نہ نماز پڑھتے ۔ ہم تیرے فضل سے بے نیاز نہیں ہیں ، قدموں کو ثابت رکھ جب دشمن سے سامنا ہو ، اور ہم پر سکینت نازل فرما ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا : "یہ کون ہے؟" عامر نے کہا : میں عامر ہوں ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "تیرا رب تجھے معاف فرمائے ۔" جب بھی رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کسی خاص شخص کے لیے استغفار فرماتے تو وہ شہید ہو جاتا ۔ حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اپنے اونٹ پر سے پکارے : اے نبی اللہ! کاش آپ ہمیں عامر سے اور فائدہ اٹھانے دیتے ۔ جب ہم خیبر پہنچے تو ان کا بادشاہ مرحب تلوار لہراتا نکلا اور کہنے لگا : خیبر جانتا ہے میں مرحب ہوں ، مسلح ، آزمودہ بہادر ، جب جنگیں بھڑک اٹھیں ۔ میرے چچا عامر مقابلے میں نکلے اور کہا : خیبر جانتا ہے میں عامر ہوں ، مسلح ، مہم جو بہادر ۔ دونوں نے وار کیے ، مرحب کی تلوار عامر کی ڈھال پر لگی اور عامر نے نیچے سے وار کرنا چاہا ، ان کی تلوار پلٹ کر خود ان کے بازو کی رگ پر لگی اور وہ شہید ہو گئے ۔ حضرت سلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : میں باہر نکلا تو نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے کچھ صحابہ رضوان اللہ عنھم اجمعین کہہ رہے تھے : عامر کا عمل ضائع ہو گیا ، اس نے خود کو مار لیا ۔ میں روتا ہوا نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آیا اور عرض کیا : یا رسول اللہ! کیا عامر کا عمل ضائع ہو گیا؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا : "کس نے یہ کہا؟" میں نے عرض کیا : آپ کے کچھ صحابہ نے ۔ آپ نے فرمایا : "جس نے یہ کہا اس نے جھوٹ بولا ، بلکہ اس کے لیے دوگنا اجر ہے ۔" پھر آپ نے مجھے حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم کے پاس بھیجا جن کی آنکھیں دُکھ رہی تھیں ، اور فرمایا : "میں یقیناً اس شخص کو جھنڈا دوں گا جو اللہ اور اس کے رسول سے محبت کرتا ہے یا جس سے اللہ اور اس کا رسول محبت فرماتے ہیں ۔" میں حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم کو ہاتھ سے پکڑ کر لایا ، ان کی آنکھیں دُکھ رہی تھیں ، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کی آنکھوں میں اپنا لعابِ دہن لگایا تو وہ صحت یاب ہو گئے ، اور آپ نے انہیں جھنڈا عطا فرمایا ۔ مرحب نکلا اور کہنے لگا : خیبر جانتا ہے میں مرحب ہوں ۔ حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم نے فرمایا : میں وہ ہوں جس کی ماں نے میرا نام حیدرہ رکھا ، جنگل کے شیر کی طرح جس کی شکل دہشت ناک ہے ، میں انہیں صندرہ کے پیمانے سے ناپ کر دوں گا ۔ آپ نے مرحب کے سر پر ضرب لگائی اور اسے قتل کیا ، پھر فتح آپ ہی کے ہاتھ پر ہوئی ۔
