Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported. I had always been anxious to ask 'Umar (Allah be pleased with him) about the two ladies amongst the wives of Allah's the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) (may peace be upon Lim) about whom Allah, the Exalted, said: " If you both turn in repentance to Allah, then indeed your hearts are inclined (to this)" (Ixvi. 4), until 'Umar (Allah be pleased with him) set out for Hajj and I also went along with him. And as we were going along a path, 'Umar (Allah be pleased with hiyn) went aside and I also went aside with him with a jug (of water). He answered the call of nature, and then came to me and I poured water over his hands and he performed ablution I said: Commander of the Faithful, who are the two ladies amongst the wives of Allah's Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) about whom Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, said: 'If you both turn to Allah in repentance, then indeed your heart are inclined to it"? 'Umar (Allah he pleased with him) said: How strange is it for you, Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas! (Zuhri said: By Allah, he disliked what he asked about, but did not keep it a secret.) He ('Umar) said: They are Hadrat Hafsa and Hadrat 'A'isha; and he then began to narrate the hadith and said: We were such people among the Quraish who dominated women, and as we reached Medina we found there people who were dominated by their women, and our women began to learn (the habits) of their women. He further said: And my house was situated in the suburb of Aledina in the tribe of Banu Umayya b. Zaid. One day I became angry with my wife and she retorted upon me. I did not like that she should retort upon me. She said: You disapprove of my retorting upon you By Allah, the wives of Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) retort upon him, and one of them detaches herself from him for the day until the night. So I ('Umar) went out and visited Hadrat Hafsa and said: Do you retort upon Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)? She said: Yes. I said; Does any one of you detach herself from him from the day to the night? She said: Yes. He said: She who did like it amongst you in fact failed and incurred loss. Does everyone amongst you not fear the wrath of Allah upon her due to the wrath of His Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and (as a result thereof) she may perish? So do not retort upon Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and do not ask him for anything, but ask me that which you desire, (and the frank behaviour) of your companion may not mislead you, if she is more graceful and is dearer to Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) than you (meaning Hadrat 'A'isha) (Allah be pleased with her). He (Hadrat 'Umar further) said: I had a compalaion from the Ansar and, we used to remain in the company of the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) turn by turn. He remained there for a day while I remained there on the other day, and he brought me the news about the revelation and other (matter), and I brought him (the news) like this. And we discussed that the Ghassanids were shoeing the horses in order to attack us. Id y companion once attended (the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)). and then came to me at night and knocked at my door and called me, and I came out to him, and he said: A matter of great importance has happened. I said: What is that? Have the Ghassanids come? He said: No, but even more serious and more significant than that: the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has divorced his wives. I said: Hadrat Hafsa has failed and has incurred loss. and I feared that it would happen. When it was dawn I observed the dawn prayer and dressed myself, and then came there (in the house of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) and visited Hadrat Hafsa, and she was weeping. I said: Has Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) divorced you (all)? She said: I do not know. He has, however, separated himself in his attic. I came to a black servant and said to him: Seek permission for 'Umar. He went in and then came to me and said: I made mention of you to him, but he kept quiet. I then went to the pulpit and sat there, and there was a group of people sitting by it and some of then were weeping. I sat there for some time, until I was overpowered (by that very idea) which was in my mind. I then came back to the boy and said to him: Seek permission for Umar. He went in and came to me and said: I made mention of you to him but he kept quiet. I was about to turn back when the boy called me and said: Go in; permission has been granted to you. I went in and greeted Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and he was reclining against the couch of mat and it had left its marks upon his side. I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), have you divorced your wives? He raised his head towards me and said: No. I said: Allah is the Greatest. Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I wish if you had seen how we the people of Quraish had domination over women but when we came to Medina we found people whom their women dominated. So our women began to learn from their women. One dily I became angry with my wife and she began to retort upon me. I did not approve that she should retort upon me. She said: You do not like that I should retort upon you, but, by Allah. the wives of Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) retort upon him and any one of them separates herself from him for a day until night. I said: He who did that amongst them in fact failed and incurred loss. Does any of them feel sate from the wrath of Allahupon her due to the wrath of Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and she has certainly perished. Allah's Messtnger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) smiled, I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I visited Hadrat Hafsa and said: (The behaviour) of your companion (Hadrat 'A'isha) may not mislead you, If she is more graceful than you and is dearer to Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) than you. Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) smiled for the second time. I said: the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), way I talk to you about agreeable things? He said: Yes. I sat down and lifted my head (to see things) in the house and, by Allah, I did not see anything significant besides three hides. I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), supplicate the Lord that he should make (life) prosperous for your Ummah as He has made plentiful for the people of Persia and Rome (in spite of the fact) that they do no, worship Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, whereupon he (the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) sat up an I then said: Ibn Khattab, do you doubt that they are a nation whom their nice things have been given immediately in the life of this world. I said: the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! seek pardon for me. And he (the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) had taken an oath that he would not visit them for a month due to extreme annoyance with them until Allah showed His displeasure to him (the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)). Zuhri said: 'Urwa informed me that 'A'Isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: When twenty-nine nights were over, Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) visited me, and he began (his visit) with me. I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), you had taken an oath that you would not visit us for a month, while you have visited after I have counted only twenty-nine (nights). Thereupon he said: The month may also be of twenty-nine (days). He then said: Hadrat 'A'isha, I am going to talk to you about a matter, and you should not be hasty in it (and do not give your final decision) until you have consulted your parents. He then recited this verse to me:" O the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), say to your wives" till he reached" mighty reward" (xxxiii. 28). Hadrat 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: By Allah, he knew that my parents would not allow me to separate from him. I said: Is there any need to consult my parents in this matter? I in fact choose Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and the abode in the Hereafter. Ma'mar said: Ayyub (upon him be peace) reported to me that Hadrat 'A'isha said: Don't inform your wives that I have chosen you, whereupon Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Verily Allah has sent me as a conveyer of message, and He has not sent me as a source of hardship (to others). Qatada said: " Saghat qulubukum" means" Your hearts have inclined

معمر نے زہری سے ، انہوں نے عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن ابی ثور سے ، انہوں نے حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کی ، انہوں نے کہا : میں شدت سے خواہش مند رہا تھا کہ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی ازواج میں سے ان دو کے بارے میں سوال کروں جن کے متعلق اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا : "" اگر تم دونوں اللہ سے توبہ کرتی ہو تو یقینا تمہارے دل آگے جھک گئے ہیں "" حتی کہ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے حج ( کا سفر ) کیا اور میں نے بھی ان کے ساتھ حج کیا ، ( واپسی پر ) ہم راستے کے ایک حصے میں تھے کہ عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ( اپنی ضرورت کے لیے راستے سے ) ایک طرف ہٹ گئے اور میں بھی پانی کا برتن لیے ان کے ساتھ ہٹ گیا ، وہ صحرا میں چلے گئے ، پھر میرے پاس آئے تو میں نے ان کے ہاتھوں پر پانی انڈیلا ، انہوں نے وضو کیا تو میں نے کہا : اے امیر المومنین! نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی بیویوں میں سے وہ دو کون سی تھیں جن کے بارے میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا ہے : "" اگر تم دونوں اللہ سے توبہ کرو تو یقینا تمہارے دل جھک گئے ہیں؟ "" عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : حضرت ابن عباس! تم پر تعجب ہے! ۔ ۔ ۔ زہری نے کہا : اللہ کی قسم! انہوں ( حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ) نے جو سوال ان سے کیا ، وہ انہیں برا لگا اور انہوں نے ( اس کا جواب ) چھپایا بھی نہیں ۔ ۔ انہوں نے کہا : وہ حفصہ اور حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنھن تھیں ۔ پھر حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بات سنانے لگے اور کہا : ہم قریش کے لوگ ایسی قوم تھے جو اپنی عورتوں پر غالب تھے ، جب ہم مدینہ آئے تو ہم نے ایسے لوگ پائے جن پر ان کی عورتیں غالب تھیں ، چنانچہ ہماری عورتوں نے بھی ان کی عورتوں سے سیکھنا شروع کر دیا ۔ ( مردوں کو پلٹ کر جواب دینے لگیں ۔ ) عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : میرا گھر بالائی علاقے بنی امیہ بن زید کے محلے میں تھا ، ایک دن میں اپنی بیوی پر ناراض ہوا ، تو وہ مجھے پلٹ کر جواب دینے لگی ، مجھے اس کا جواب دینا بڑا ناگوار گزرا تو اس نے کہا : تمہیں یہ ناگوار گزرتا ہے کہ میں تمہیں جواب دوں؟ اللہ کی قسم! نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی ازواج بھی آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو جواب دے دیتی ہیں ، اور ان میں سے کوئی ایک تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو رات تک پورا دن چھوڑ بھی دیتی ہے ( روٹھی رہتی ہے ۔ ) میں چلا ، حفصہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا کے ہاں گیا اور کہا : کیا تم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو پلٹ کر جواب دے دیتی ہو؟ انہوں نے کہا : جی ہاں ۔ میں نے ( پھر ) پوچھا : کیا تم میں سے کوئی انہیں رات تک دن بھر کے لیے چھوڑ بھی دیتی ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا : جی ہاں! میں نے کہا : تم میں سے جس نے بھی ایسا کیا وہ ناکام ہوئی اور خسارے میں پڑی ۔ کیا تم میں سے کوئی اس بات سے بے خوف ہو جاتی ہے کہ اپنے رسول صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی ناراضی کی وجہ سے اللہ ( بھی ) اس پر ناراض ہو جائے گا تو وہ تباہ و برباد ہو جائے گی؟ ( آیندہ ) تم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو جواب دینا نہ ان سے کسی چیز کا مطالبہ کرنا ، تمہیں جو چاہئے مجھ سے مانگ لینا ۔ تمہیں یہ بات دھوکے میں نہ ڈال دے کہ تمہاری ہمسائی ( سوکن ) تم سے زیادہ خوبصورت اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو زیادہ محبوب ہے ۔ ۔ ان کی مراد حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے تھی ۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : ۔ ۔ انصار میں سے میرا ایک پڑوسی تھا ۔ ۔ ہم باری باری ( بالائی علاقے سے ) اتر کر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوتے تھے ۔ ایک دن وہ اترتا اور ایک دن میں اترتا ، وہ میرے پاس وحی وغیرہ کی خبریں لاتا اور میں بھی ( اپنی باری کے دن ) اس کے پاس اسی طرح کی خبریں لاتا ۔ اور ( ان دنوں ) ہم آپس میں باتیں کر رہے تھے کہ غسانی ہمارے ساتھ لڑائی کرنے کے لیے گھوڑوں کو کھڑیاں لگا رہے تھے ، میرا ساتھی ( رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہونے کے لیے عوالی سے ) اترا ، پھر عشاء کے وقت میرے پاس آیا ، میرا دروازہ کھٹکھٹایا ، پھر مجھے آواز دی ، میں باہر نکلا تو اس نے کہا : ایک بہت بڑا واقعہ رونما ہو گیا ہے ۔ میں نے پوچھا : کیا ہوا؟ کیا غسانی آ گئے؟ اس نے کہا : نہیں ، بلکہ وہ اس سے بھی بڑا اور لمبا چوڑا ( معاملہ ) ہے ۔ نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنی بیویوں کو طلاق دے دی ہے ۔ میں نے کہا : حفصہ تو ناکام ہوئی اور خسارے میں پڑ گئی ۔ میں تو ( پہلے ہی ) سمجھتا تھا کہ ایسا ہونے والا ہے ۔ ( دوسرے دن ) جب میں صبح کی نماز پڑھ چکا تو اپنے کپڑے پہنے ، مدینہ میں آیا اور حفصہ کے پاس گیا ، وہ رو رہی تھی ۔ میں نے پوچھا : کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے تم سب کو طلاق دے دی ہے؟ اس نے کہا : میں نہیں جانتی ، البتہ آپ الگ تھلگ اس بالاخانے میں ہیں ۔ میں آپ کے سیاہ فام غلام کے پاس آیا ، اور اسے کہا ، عمر کے لیے اجازت مانگو ۔ وہ گیا ، پھر میری طرف باہر آیا اور کہا : میں نے آُ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سامنے تمہارا ذکر کیا مگر آپ خاموش رہے ۔ میں چلا آیا حتی کہ منبر کے پاس آ کر بیٹھ گیا ، تو وہاں بہت سے لوگ بیٹھے تھے ، ان میں سے بعض رو رہے تھے ، میں تھوڑی دیر بیٹھا ، پھر جو کیفیت مجھ پر طاری تھی وہ مجھ پر غالب آ گئی ۔ میں پھر غلام کے پاس آیا اور کہا : عمر کے لیے اجازت مانگو ، وہ اندر داخل ہوا ، پھر میری طرف باہر آیا اور کہا : میں نے آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سامنے تمہارا ذکر کیا ، مگر آپ خاموش رہے ۔ میں پیٹھ پھیر کر مڑا تو اچانک غلام مجھے بلانے لگا ، اور کہا : اندر چلے جاؤ ، آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے تمہیں اجازت دے دی ہے ۔ میں اندر داخل ہوا ، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو سلام عرض کیا تو دیکھا کہ آپ بنتی کی ایک چٹائی پر سہارا لے کر بیٹھے تھے ، جس نے آپ کے پہلو پر نشان ڈال دیے تھے ، میں نے عرض کی : کیا آپ نے اللہ کے رسول! اپنی بیویوں کو طلاق دے دی ہے؟ آپ نے میری طرف ( دیکھتے ہوئے ) اپنا سر مبارک اٹھایا اور فرمایا : "" نہیں ۔ "" میں نے کہا : اللہ اکبر ۔ اللہ کے رسول! اگر آپ ہمیں دیکھتے تو ہم قریش ایسی قوم تھے جو اپنی بیویوں پر غالب رہتے تھے ۔ جب ہم مدینہ آئے تو ہم نے ایسی قوم کو پایا جن کی عورتیں ان پر غالب تھیں ، تو ہماری عورتوں نے بھی ان کی عورتوں ( کی عادت ) سے سیکھنا شروع کر دیا ، چنانچہ ایک دن میں اپنی بیوی پر برہم ہوا تو وہ مجھے پلٹ کر جواب دینے لگی ۔ مجھے اس کا جواب دینا انتہائی ناگوار گزرا ، اس نے کہا : تمہیں یہ ناگوار گزرتا ہے کہ میں تمہیں جواب دیتی ہوں؟ اللہ کی قسم! نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی بیویاں بھی آپ کو جواب دے دیتی ہیں ، اور ان میں سے کوئی تو آپ کو رات تک چھوڑ بھی دیتی ( روٹھ بھی جاتی ) ہے ۔ تو میں نے کہا : ان میں سے جس نے ایسا کیا وہ ناکام ہوئی اور خسارے میں پڑی ۔ کیا ( یہ کام کر کے ) ان میں سے کوئی اس بات سے بے خوف ہو سکتی ہے کہ اپنے رسول کی ناراضی کی وجہ سے اللہ اس پر ناراض ہو جائے ( اگر ایسا ہوا ) تو وہ تباہ ہو گئی ۔ اس پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم مسکرا دیے تو میں نے کہا : اللہ کے رسول! میں حفصہ کے پاس گیا اور اس نے کہا : تمہیں یہ بات کسی دھوکے میں نہ ڈال دے کہ تمہاری ہمسائی ( سوکن ) تم سے زیادہ خوبصورت اور اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو تم سے زیادہ محبوب ہے ۔ اس پر آپ دوبارہ مسکرائے تو میں نے عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول! ( کچھ دیر بیٹھ کر ) بات چیت کروں ، آپ نے فرمایا : "" ہاں ۔ "" چنانچہ میں بیٹھ گیا اور میں نے سر اوپر کر کے گھر میں نگاہ دوڑائی تو اللہ کی قسم! اس میں تین چمڑوں کے سوا کچھ نہ تھا جس پر نظر پڑتی ، میں نے عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول! دعا فرمائیے کہ اللہ آپ کی امت پر فراخی فرمائے ۔ فارسیوں اور رومیوں پر وسعت کی گئی ہے حالانکہ وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی عبادت نہیں کرتے ۔ اس پر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سیدھے ہو کر بیٹھ گئے ، پھر فرمایا : "" ابن خطاب! کیا تم کسی شک میں مبتلا ہو؟ یہ ایسے لوگ ہیں جنہیں ان ( کے حصے ) کی اچھی چیزیں جلد ہی دنیا میں دے دی گئی ہیں ۔ "" میں نے عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول! میرے لیے بخشش طلب کیجیے ۔ اور آپ نے ان ( ازواج ) پر سخت غصے کی وجہ سے قسم کھا لی تھی کہ ایک مہینہ ان کے پاس نہیں جائیں گے ۔ یہاں تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ پر عتاب فرمایا ۔ ( کہ بیویوں کی بات پر آپ کیوں غمزدہ ہوتے اور حلال چیزوں سے دور رہنے کی قسم کھاتے ہیں)

When it was dawn I observed the dawn prayer and dressed myself, and then came there (in the house of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) and visited Hadrat Hafsa, and she was weeping. I said: Has Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) divorced you (all)? She said: I do not know. He has, however, separated himself in his attic. I came to a black servant and said to him: Seek permission for 'Umar. He went in and then came to me and said: I made mention of you to him, but he kept quiet. I then went to the pulpit and sat there, and there was a group of people sitting by it and some of then were weeping. I sat there for some time, until I was overpowered (by that very idea) which was in my mind. I then came back to the boy and said to him: Seek permission for Umar. He went in and came to me and said: I made mention of you to him but he kept quiet. I was about to turn back when the boy called me and said: Go in; permission has been granted to you. I went in and greeted Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and he was reclining against the couch of mat and it had left its marks upon his side. I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), have you divorced your wives? He raised his head towards me and said: No. I said: Allah is the Greatest. Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I wish if you had seen how we the people of Quraish had domination over women but when we came to Medina we found people whom their women dominated. So our women began to learn from their women. One dily I became angry with my wife and she began to retort upon me. I did not approve that she should retort upon me. She said: You do not like that I should retort upon you, but, by Allah. the wives of Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) retort upon him and any one of them separates herself from him for a day until night. I said: He who did that amongst them in fact failed and incurred loss. Does any of them feel sate from the wrath of Allahupon her due to the wrath of Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and she has certainly perished. Allah's Messtnger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) smiled, I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I visited Hadrat Hafsa and said: (The behaviour) of your companion (Hadrat 'A'isha) may not mislead you, If she is more graceful than you and is dearer to Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) than you. Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) smiled for the second time. I said: the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), way I talk to you about agreeable things? He said: Yes. I sat down and lifted my head (to see things) in the house and, by Allah, I did not see anything significant besides three hides. I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), supplicate the Lord that he should make (life) prosperous for your Ummah as He has made plentiful for the people of Persia and Rome (in spite of the fact) that they do no, worship Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, whereupon he (the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) sat up an I then said: Ibn Khattab, do you doubt that they are a nation whom their nice things have been given immediately in the life of this world. I said: the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! seek pardon for me. And he (the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) had taken an oath that he would not visit them for a month due to extreme annoyance with them until Allah showed His displeasure to him (the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)). Zuhri said: 'Urwa informed me that 'A'Isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: When twenty-nine nights were over, Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) visited me, and he began (his visit) with me. I said: Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), you had taken an oath that you would not visit us for a month, while you have visited after I have counted only twenty-nine (nights). Thereupon he said: The month may also be of twenty-nine (days). He then said: Hadrat 'A'isha, I am going to talk to you about a matter, and you should not be hasty in it (and do not give your final decision) until you have consulted your parents. He then recited this verse to me:" O the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), say to your wives" till he reached" mighty reward" (xxxiii. 28). Hadrat 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: By Allah, he knew that my parents would not allow me to separate from him. I said: Is there any need to consult my parents in this matter? I in fact choose Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and the abode in the Hereafter. Ma'mar said: Ayyub (upon him be peace) reported to me that Hadrat 'A'isha said: Don't inform your wives that I have chosen you, whereupon Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Verily Allah has sent me as a conveyer of message, and He has not sent me as a source of hardship (to others). Qatada said: " Saghat qulubukum" means" Your hearts have inclined
معمر نے زہری سے ، انہوں نے عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن ابی ثور سے ، انہوں نے حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کی ، انہوں نے کہا : میں شدت سے خواہش مند رہا تھا کہ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی ازواج میں سے ان دو کے بارے میں سوال کروں جن کے متعلق اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا : "" اگر تم دونوں اللہ سے توبہ کرتی ہو تو یقینا تمہارے دل آگے جھک گئے ہیں "" حتی کہ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے حج ( کا سفر ) کیا اور میں نے بھی ان کے ساتھ حج کیا ، ( واپسی پر ) ہم راستے کے ایک حصے میں تھے کہ عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ( اپنی ضرورت کے لیے راستے سے ) ایک طرف ہٹ گئے اور میں بھی پانی کا برتن لیے ان کے ساتھ ہٹ گیا ، وہ صحرا میں چلے گئے ، پھر میرے پاس آئے تو میں نے ان کے ہاتھوں پر پانی انڈیلا ، انہوں نے وضو کیا تو میں نے کہا : اے امیر المومنین! نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی بیویوں میں سے وہ دو کون سی تھیں جن کے بارے میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا ہے : "" اگر تم دونوں اللہ سے توبہ کرو تو یقینا تمہارے دل جھک گئے ہیں؟ "" عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : حضرت ابن عباس! تم پر تعجب ہے! ۔ ۔ ۔ زہری نے کہا : اللہ کی قسم! انہوں ( حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ) نے جو سوال ان سے کیا ، وہ انہیں برا لگا اور انہوں نے ( اس کا جواب ) چھپایا بھی نہیں ۔ ۔ انہوں نے کہا : وہ حفصہ اور حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنھن تھیں ۔ پھر حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بات سنانے لگے اور کہا : ہم قریش کے لوگ ایسی قوم تھے جو اپنی عورتوں پر غالب تھے ، جب ہم مدینہ آئے تو ہم نے ایسے لوگ پائے جن پر ان کی عورتیں غالب تھیں ، چنانچہ ہماری عورتوں نے بھی ان کی عورتوں سے سیکھنا شروع کر دیا ۔ ( مردوں کو پلٹ کر جواب دینے لگیں ۔ ) عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : میرا گھر بالائی علاقے بنی امیہ بن زید کے محلے میں تھا ، ایک دن میں اپنی بیوی پر ناراض ہوا ، تو وہ مجھے پلٹ کر جواب دینے لگی ، مجھے اس کا جواب دینا بڑا ناگوار گزرا تو اس نے کہا : تمہیں یہ ناگوار گزرتا ہے کہ میں تمہیں جواب دوں؟ اللہ کی قسم! نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی ازواج بھی آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو جواب دے دیتی ہیں ، اور ان میں سے کوئی ایک تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو رات تک پورا دن چھوڑ بھی دیتی ہے ( روٹھی رہتی ہے ۔ ) میں چلا ، حفصہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا کے ہاں گیا اور کہا : کیا تم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو پلٹ کر جواب دے دیتی ہو؟ انہوں نے کہا : جی ہاں ۔ میں نے ( پھر ) پوچھا : کیا تم میں سے کوئی انہیں رات تک دن بھر کے لیے چھوڑ بھی دیتی ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا : جی ہاں! میں نے کہا : تم میں سے جس نے بھی ایسا کیا وہ ناکام ہوئی اور خسارے میں پڑی ۔ کیا تم میں سے کوئی اس بات سے بے خوف ہو جاتی ہے کہ اپنے رسول صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی ناراضی کی وجہ سے اللہ ( بھی ) اس پر ناراض ہو جائے گا تو وہ تباہ و برباد ہو جائے گی؟ ( آیندہ ) تم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو جواب دینا نہ ان سے کسی چیز کا مطالبہ کرنا ، تمہیں جو چاہئے مجھ سے مانگ لینا ۔ تمہیں یہ بات دھوکے میں نہ ڈال دے کہ تمہاری ہمسائی ( سوکن ) تم سے زیادہ خوبصورت اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو زیادہ محبوب ہے ۔ ۔ ان کی مراد حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے تھی ۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : ۔ ۔ انصار میں سے میرا ایک پڑوسی تھا ۔ ۔ ہم باری باری ( بالائی علاقے سے ) اتر کر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوتے تھے ۔ ایک دن وہ اترتا اور ایک دن میں اترتا ، وہ میرے پاس وحی وغیرہ کی خبریں لاتا اور میں بھی ( اپنی باری کے دن ) اس کے پاس اسی طرح کی خبریں لاتا ۔ اور ( ان دنوں ) ہم آپس میں باتیں کر رہے تھے کہ غسانی ہمارے ساتھ لڑائی کرنے کے لیے گھوڑوں کو کھڑیاں لگا رہے تھے ، میرا ساتھی ( رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہونے کے لیے عوالی سے ) اترا ، پھر عشاء کے وقت میرے پاس آیا ، میرا دروازہ کھٹکھٹایا ، پھر مجھے آواز دی ، میں باہر نکلا تو اس نے کہا : ایک بہت بڑا واقعہ رونما ہو گیا ہے ۔ میں نے پوچھا : کیا ہوا؟ کیا غسانی آ گئے؟ اس نے کہا : نہیں ، بلکہ وہ اس سے بھی بڑا اور لمبا چوڑا ( معاملہ ) ہے ۔ نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنی بیویوں کو طلاق دے دی ہے ۔ میں نے کہا : حفصہ تو ناکام ہوئی اور خسارے میں پڑ گئی ۔ میں تو ( پہلے ہی ) سمجھتا تھا کہ ایسا ہونے والا ہے ۔ ( دوسرے دن ) جب میں صبح کی نماز پڑھ چکا تو اپنے کپڑے پہنے ، مدینہ میں آیا اور حفصہ کے پاس گیا ، وہ رو رہی تھی ۔ میں نے پوچھا : کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے تم سب کو طلاق دے دی ہے؟ اس نے کہا : میں نہیں جانتی ، البتہ آپ الگ تھلگ اس بالاخانے میں ہیں ۔ میں آپ کے سیاہ فام غلام کے پاس آیا ، اور اسے کہا ، عمر کے لیے اجازت مانگو ۔ وہ گیا ، پھر میری طرف باہر آیا اور کہا : میں نے آُ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سامنے تمہارا ذکر کیا مگر آپ خاموش رہے ۔ میں چلا آیا حتی کہ منبر کے پاس آ کر بیٹھ گیا ، تو وہاں بہت سے لوگ بیٹھے تھے ، ان میں سے بعض رو رہے تھے ، میں تھوڑی دیر بیٹھا ، پھر جو کیفیت مجھ پر طاری تھی وہ مجھ پر غالب آ گئی ۔ میں پھر غلام کے پاس آیا اور کہا : عمر کے لیے اجازت مانگو ، وہ اندر داخل ہوا ، پھر میری طرف باہر آیا اور کہا : میں نے آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سامنے تمہارا ذکر کیا ، مگر آپ خاموش رہے ۔ میں پیٹھ پھیر کر مڑا تو اچانک غلام مجھے بلانے لگا ، اور کہا : اندر چلے جاؤ ، آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے تمہیں اجازت دے دی ہے ۔ میں اندر داخل ہوا ، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو سلام عرض کیا تو دیکھا کہ آپ بنتی کی ایک چٹائی پر سہارا لے کر بیٹھے تھے ، جس نے آپ کے پہلو پر نشان ڈال دیے تھے ، میں نے عرض کی : کیا آپ نے اللہ کے رسول! اپنی بیویوں کو طلاق دے دی ہے؟ آپ نے میری طرف ( دیکھتے ہوئے ) اپنا سر مبارک اٹھایا اور فرمایا : "" نہیں ۔ "" میں نے کہا : اللہ اکبر ۔ اللہ کے رسول! اگر آپ ہمیں دیکھتے تو ہم قریش ایسی قوم تھے جو اپنی بیویوں پر غالب رہتے تھے ۔ جب ہم مدینہ آئے تو ہم نے ایسی قوم کو پایا جن کی عورتیں ان پر غالب تھیں ، تو ہماری عورتوں نے بھی ان کی عورتوں ( کی عادت ) سے سیکھنا شروع کر دیا ، چنانچہ ایک دن میں اپنی بیوی پر برہم ہوا تو وہ مجھے پلٹ کر جواب دینے لگی ۔ مجھے اس کا جواب دینا انتہائی ناگوار گزرا ، اس نے کہا : تمہیں یہ ناگوار گزرتا ہے کہ میں تمہیں جواب دیتی ہوں؟ اللہ کی قسم! نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی بیویاں بھی آپ کو جواب دے دیتی ہیں ، اور ان میں سے کوئی تو آپ کو رات تک چھوڑ بھی دیتی ( روٹھ بھی جاتی ) ہے ۔ تو میں نے کہا : ان میں سے جس نے ایسا کیا وہ ناکام ہوئی اور خسارے میں پڑی ۔ کیا ( یہ کام کر کے ) ان میں سے کوئی اس بات سے بے خوف ہو سکتی ہے کہ اپنے رسول کی ناراضی کی وجہ سے اللہ اس پر ناراض ہو جائے ( اگر ایسا ہوا ) تو وہ تباہ ہو گئی ۔ اس پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم مسکرا دیے تو میں نے کہا : اللہ کے رسول! میں حفصہ کے پاس گیا اور اس نے کہا : تمہیں یہ بات کسی دھوکے میں نہ ڈال دے کہ تمہاری ہمسائی ( سوکن ) تم سے زیادہ خوبصورت اور اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو تم سے زیادہ محبوب ہے ۔ اس پر آپ دوبارہ مسکرائے تو میں نے عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول! ( کچھ دیر بیٹھ کر ) بات چیت کروں ، آپ نے فرمایا : "" ہاں ۔ "" چنانچہ میں بیٹھ گیا اور میں نے سر اوپر کر کے گھر میں نگاہ دوڑائی تو اللہ کی قسم! اس میں تین چمڑوں کے سوا کچھ نہ تھا جس پر نظر پڑتی ، میں نے عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول! دعا فرمائیے کہ اللہ آپ کی امت پر فراخی فرمائے ۔ فارسیوں اور رومیوں پر وسعت کی گئی ہے حالانکہ وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی عبادت نہیں کرتے ۔ اس پر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سیدھے ہو کر بیٹھ گئے ، پھر فرمایا : "" ابن خطاب! کیا تم کسی شک میں مبتلا ہو؟ یہ ایسے لوگ ہیں جنہیں ان ( کے حصے ) کی اچھی چیزیں جلد ہی دنیا میں دے دی گئی ہیں ۔ "" میں نے عرض کی : اللہ کے رسول! میرے لیے بخشش طلب کیجیے ۔ اور آپ نے ان ( ازواج ) پر سخت غصے کی وجہ سے قسم کھا لی تھی کہ ایک مہینہ ان کے پاس نہیں جائیں گے ۔ یہاں تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ پر عتاب فرمایا ۔ ( کہ بیویوں کی بات پر آپ کیوں غمزدہ ہوتے اور حلال چیزوں سے دور رہنے کی قسم کھاتے ہیں)
