English Translation

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "While a man was in an open land, he heard a voice from a cloud saying: 'Water the garden of so-and-so.' The cloud moved and poured its water on a stony plain. One of the channels absorbed all the water. He followed the water and found a man standing in his garden, directing the water with his shovel. He said: 'O servant of Allah, what is your name?' He said: 'So-and-so' — the same name he had heard from the cloud. Then the man asked him: 'O servant of Allah, why do you ask my name?' He said: 'I heard a voice from the cloud from which this water fell, saying: Water the garden of so-and-so — your name. What do you do with it?' He said: 'Now that you have said this, I look at what it produces and give one-third in charity, eat one-third with my family, and return one-third to it (reinvest it).'" Narrated by Muslim.
