Arabic (Original)
وَعَنْ ثَوْبَانَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي الدُّنْيَا بِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ (يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرفُوا على أنْفُسِهم لَا تَقْنَطوا) الْآيَةَ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: فَمَنْ أَشْرَكَ؟ فَسَكَتَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أَلا وَمن أشرَكَ» ثَلَاث مرَّاتٍ
English Translation
Thauban said that he heard God’s messenger say, "I would not give this verse for the whole world, 'My servants who have transgressed against their souls, do not despair . . .’ ”1 A man asked whether that included those who had associated partners with God, and after remaining silent for a time the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated three times, “Yes, it includes even those who have associated partners with God.” 1 . Urdu Translation
حضرت ثوبان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا: میں اس آیت کے بدلے ساری دنیا بھی پسند نہیں کرتا: (یٰعِبَادِیَ الَّذِیْنَ اَسْرَفُوْا عَلٰۤی اَنْفُسِہِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوْا) پوری آیت۔ ایک شخص نے کہا: اور جس نے شرک کیا؟ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم خاموش رہے پھر تین مرتبہ ارشاد فرمایا: خبردار! جس نے شرک بھی کیا (اس کے لیے بھی)۔ (احمد)
