Arabic (Original)
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَعْرِفُ فَصْلَ السُّورَةِ حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيم. رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُد
English Translation
Hadrat Ibn ‘Abbās said that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) did not know where sūras were to be separated till “In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful,” was sent down. Abū Dāwūd transmitted it.
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سورتوں کی تفریق نہیں پہچانتے تھے یہاں تک کہ بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ نازل ہوتی۔ (ابو داؤد)
